Just wondering if your OHs/family refusing to buy horse things for Christmas?

My boyfriend of 3 1/2yrs is refusing to entertain getting me a new bridle or anything remotley horse related for my present as his theory is that he will only be buying a present for my horse and he only wants to buy her a bag of carrots! He really doesn't get it lol I even tried suggesting a new competition jacket and that's still a no go :( however I think I may be able to work on my dad getting me something horsey for Christmas so there is still hope!:)

My partner has bought me a beautiful rolled double bridle, and a horse themed hand bag.......well i ordered them and he paid!!!
He did once buy me some stirrup leathers for valentines day :D

Dear LMMP,

There is a reason I have been with my husband for nearly 20 years and it is (partly) because when he asked what I wanted for my last birthday present, I replied 'a new wheel-barrow of my very own' and he didn't bat an eyelid. He even let me choose it.
;)

He/they wouldn't dare lol!

No but seriosuly they wouldn't know what else to buy me I dont think as they refuse to buy me shoes, clothes or perfume as apparently I have far too many for one person! Pah!! Whatever lol!!! :D

Ha ha me too!

My Mum will just pretend she doesn't hear if I ask for something horsey. I Think she still hopes in vain I am going to grow out of them :)

My Dad can occasionaly be pursuaded if it is something saftey related (think hat/body protector) for me but wouldn't ever buy anything for my horse.

Yup :(

My OH of 6 years hates buying me horsey things. For my birthday a couple of years ago i managed to persuade him to buy me some rambo fleecy chaps. I have made a point about how they are the best present he has bought me!

I am sure if I had a horse right now then he may buy me a new bridle or something, but at the moment he says I have enough riding boots/jodhpurs etc so he is getting me some jewelery...eurgh!! When will I be able to wear that! :P

If my partner bought me jewelery i would be worried he was up to no good......guilty of something!!!

It really does blow! Really would like a nice bridle for competitions or a new jacket, just going to have to ask Dad. I think I could work on OH though...might take a while of taking him to the tack shops and pointing out the exact one and making sure he knows full size etc lol he is the most non horsey person ever! He goes on about if you have a wierd idea with horses you will make millions and really doesn't understand the concept of clipping horses to have to pay lots for rugs to keep them warm....bless him!
That is a very good idea going down the safety route though...a new direction I will have to take.
Well I suppose Dad is already has got my xmas present (he went 50/50 on my new horse!)
I can always dream of winning the lottery!!
TF I know how you feel on the jewelery front.....when do us horse people get the chance to wear expensive blingy bling...or no amount of perfume covers the smell of horse on your coats! :)

Yep, both my parents and my OH are very reluctant to buy me horsey gifts! They are under the impression that they buying for the horse instead of myself. God knows why  ;)

Ha nah...past birthdays etc he has got me a nice watch and necklace...and thinks i need a nice bracelet or something to go with them!

I am sure if I had a horse I could persuade him to get me something nice for shows like a bridle/travel rug, saddle cloth etc. I think he would put his foot down with things like rugs and boots though. He has in the past bought bags of carrots and a nice stable door name sign for an old loan horse though!

Yes go down the safety route :P My parents are not that fussed about buying me horsey things so long as it is a riding hat, body protector, steel toed boots or high viz!

I know...I'm just going to wind him up now as I don't think he will give in :( He has a deep hate for rugs and as I gave 90% of my old ones away when I sold my last horse and my new horse is a lot bigger I said he could buy me some rugs....hehe the look on his face was a present in itself :D
I did say he could get me a gym membership but that was a whole different debate!!

My OH won't buy me horsey presents as he doesn't see it as buying things for me. He puts lots of thought into my presents and gets me some lovely things so I really don't mind. His mother is happy to take me to the tack shop at christmas so I can choose some horsey things so I do get a few horsey treats.
If he bought me horsey stuff I would have to tell him what to buy and that would spoil the fun for me.

God no! I always get horsey stuff - it's my hobby! If you played golf, or was a keen runner, or played football at weekends, I am sure buying stuff for these hobbies wouldn't be frowned upon!

I tried arguing that with him as well saying I've bought him things for his hobbies and he just says its like me buying his dog a new lead lol very stubborn man! I do like the presents he has bought me in the past and the suprise of not knowing what I'm getting but could really do with some new bits and bobs or a new saddle :)

My Mum and Dad have already bought my Christmas present this year (and for the next few years!)... a new horse! :D

So no, I don't think they'd ever refuse to buy me horsey presents!

How the buggering heck did I miss that????
So as I am slow and missed it DETAILS!!!!! (and a pic or two would be nice!:D)

Glad you tried to argue this one as I think that it is quite a valid point! Nevermind - at least he gets you a present - glass is half full and all that! :D I think it's quite funny actually - I can vouch that my horse certainly doesn't want a new saddle / bridle / breeches / headcollar etc. He just wants food - so unless I am bought some sort of horse feed for Christmas, then it certainly won't be a "gift" for my horse.

I know! Very annoying! Oh well I do have to be grateful that he will be buying her some carrots for christmas and now he lives on the yard he walks down to her stable to give her mints before work, so she's happy at least! :)

My OH bought me a new pair of Ariat Grasmeres last Christmas and the Christmas before he bought my mare a bridle.

The first Christmas we were together I had a bit of a strop at him for spending many £££s on a manicure set for me. :p :o He gets me now, and would be more likely to buy me a wheel barrow. :D
