Is anyone buying equestrian properties?

In Lincolnshire you definitely get more for your money than in much of England, unfortunately, the road network is not so good.

We've been looking in Cheshire for a couple of years and haven't seen anything that ticks all the boxes. The house itself is not a priority, would rather have good land.

A beautiful house with 3 stables, menage and a meagre 1/2 an acre, is not an equestrian property.

a property near us (cheshire) was

4/5 bed detatched property ON A MAIN ROAD, 2 acres of land...... £550,000 (it sold....)

person who has bought it has whacked up some stables (3) fenced off the "land"....no room for an outdoor......

good luck to them but i wouldnt buy it even if i had the money!...

Are you sitting down?:D

I bought my previous place up Glenlivet, within sight of the famous distillery, with 8.5 acres, a range of good solid buildings, and a two bedroom house for just £3,000 (three thousand)....but that was in 1975!

Then I moved here. 34 acres, a very small house, and no buildings to speak of for £25,000...but that was in 1982. I've since erected a three bay steel barn, two stables and a tack room, round pen, large field shelter, mains water to every field, etc. Only 2 miles from town (4 major supermarkets), no close neighbours, secluded with mature trees, miles of hacking including beaches....I'll be moving sometime as I'm getting old but not for a year or two. This is about 35 miles from Inverness, reputed to be the fastest growing city in the UK.

One word of caution if considering buying in Scotland. In the crofting counties (roughly north, north-west, and the islands), land can be tied up in knots under crofting tenure and a purchase/lease might need the approval of The Crofters' Commission. Despite the lure of big grants, in my opinion it is wise to firmly resist Alex Salmond's shilling and remain independent as I have done.

I wish someone would buy mine - I want a change of scenery!! Here's mine - 22 acres, 5 bed main house with 2 bed granny annex, amazing views of lake district, out buildings which are in need of repair, but we also have 5 double stables and 4 american barn stallion boxes too, and a very large chicken pen!!!:p http://www.haywardtod.co.uk/SearchP...8|0:2147483647:2|0|1|0|::&propertyNumOnPage=2

Alexart your house is lovely - just my taste in decor etc Dont understand why it's not selling.

^^Glad you like it, thank you!! Neither do I Merlin!!! We're only a couple of miles from lovely sandy beaches for riding on too!!??:D

Dollypentreath, that's hilarious, I work for Spencers. I'm lucky enough to spend a lot of my time showing equestrian properties to purchasers. In fact on Saturday I spent a lovely couple of hours with a lcouple who are buying one of our properties, a lovely house with 10 acres and stunning views, I drove them all around The Forest showing them their surrounding villages and the decent pubs that you can ride to etc.

Well no one seems to be buying in the Scottish Borders! Due to divorce I'm having to sell my house, land and stables that I've spent the last couple of years renovating. Gutted! Only ten mins from the coast, but hills equally close and stunning views.

We've only had a couple of viewings. Would gladly take a reasonable offer just to shift the place and get my life back.
