Feeling extremely depressed. I have a very stressful job and i always look forward to riding Mr W at night to relax me and ensure my work life balance.

However, with the dark nights, i only get to see him for 1/2 hour a day ( he lives out and my sister looks after him while i am at work). I can't ride at night as i don't have access to a school with lights.

I live for the weekends so i can dawdle around with him and relax for the first time over the week. It just goes too soon and it is monday again. Also i need to do the other things i usually do at the weekends that are easy to do when it is summer and i can ride in the week.

Fed up and role on summer. I am sure i must have SAD, However, Mr W doesn't seem to mind as he is enjoying the very relaxed winter regime.

How do you cope???? I think I need to call in sick for the next 4 months

I too hate the winter, I seem to eat more, need more sleep and generally have no get up and go.

I suppose we just have to make the most of our weekends and be grateful we've got our horses.

Hi Spider, No unfortunatley. I manage a team of social workers and already work really long hours and often evenings, Just enough hours in the day

I hate winter too!! Bear was off for 3 weeks as his back was out so then when he was able to be ridden i had got a job, so put daughter in to nursery twice a week so i could ride and then he lost a bloody shoe!!! he had his shoes done on wednesday but i havent had time this weekend as i got my foal on wednesday too so been busy, and im going away on thursday until monday!!!!!
I dont even get time to groom them, poor neglected babies!!
I need to learn to drive so I can have independence as i rely on OH but he's started working F/T now so he doesnt finish work until its dark and its no fun feeding in the dark at a yard with no electric! I need to invest in a torch LOL

nearly dec ie nearly xmas which means nearly jan when we can all start imagining the nights are getting lighter. how about this then, im off work, great you would think, sun is shining and lovely weather for november, and i want to be riding my boy every day being as it is a bonus given the season etc and normally working til dark etc etc but alas no, my wrists have the strength of wrists that are broken therefore i have to sit indoors, not supposed to drive, look at the gorgeous weather knowing my boy is as bored as i am

i manage a couple of rides a week when oh can tack up for me and get me on and off. its horrid and so tempting it hurts!

I live for the weekends at the moment too. As a teacher I do get a couple of weeks at Christmas though so I'm looking forward to that time, just hope its dry and sunny over the holiday period!
After that, I start looking forward to the lighter nights. I like it when it gets to February when I feel like we've got it all to look forward to!

I'm sick of getting up early already, and he's only been in for 4 nights!! I'm trying to ride in the mornings before work, not sure how long it'll last though!

Hell yes! Was whinging about this yesterday on the forum, I reckon having your own place is great in summer, but for winter moving to a fab yard, loads of lovely people, and a big school with lights (Can't bring myself to even dream of an indoor school!) is the way to go!

So, I have tomorrow off, and I'm going riding, just checked the weather and it's dry with a possibility of the sun coming out! And then, I'm going to do some Christmas shopping, which I really won't enjoy at all. And to end the day, I'm going to Slimming World, and if all I've lost is half a pound I will be livid, as this amount of chocolare deprivation should amount to half a stone coming off each week!!!!!!!

I hate winter but am lucky that I have an indoor school where I am now so still get to ride. Hold in there, it's not long! Can you ride before work - it's hard work getting up but always makes me feel better! x

Have you thought about a career change? There is nothing more depressing than hating your job. Been there, done that, been off with stress etc.

Try a lumie alarm clock? I got mine about a month ago. They wake you up with a gradually brightening light so you wake up gently & naturally rather than with a bump.

Have you got transport? Could you get to a school once or twice a week or do some evening comps? Could you set up a moveable floodlight in the field with a long extension lead? It feels weird riding in the 'dark' to start with, but you get used to it.

Seriously, I'd think about the job first. I nearly gave up work altogether 2 or 3 years ago cos I was so stressed that I was starting to lose my mind, but with a career change, all is well again.

PM me if you want.

T x

career change not an option at present, but i know what you mean!!!!!!!

I Keep doing the lottery and hoping. Have requested my OH gets a job paying lots more and i can then stay at home an cook cordon bleu.

However, he knows that he will find me in the field and takeaway pizza on the table, so he's not falling for that one,

Even told him i would be a stay at home mum, but he says horses don't count. I can't even get child benefit.

Finally, no electric. Ho Hum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have asked for a horse box for christmas, but i might as well ask for a mansion in the caribbean.

I am so with you on this one - I hate winter. Its impossible to get everything done in the amount of daylight we get. For Gods Sake its pitch black at 5pm and then we waste boring hours in the evening watching TV!

I am very tempted to emigrate when the kids have grown up!

You are not on your own at all!!!It,s not the work hours that put me off it is the bloody weather
frown.gif
,give me frosty mornings at least you are normally guaranteed a sunny day!!I hate riding when it is miserable, think i must have SAD to!!
blush.gif
My horse has too, lol!!High spirits on a crisp morning, damn right miserable if it pi--ing down with rain!!!
