Is anyone elses field like a lake?

Our fields have been shut for months now, I dread to think what they look like. But our outdoor school isn't draining and that definately looks like a lake.

We joke that we are taking the horses out 'for a little swim' whenever we have to exercise in there.

We just have acres of mud (the paying client that is) at our yard. There is barely a blade of grass left.

Although a drain was put in at the bottom of the field a few months ago, the damage had already been done.
 
Yes a very muddy lake at that too. Went out to get the horses in last night and in some parts it is only 3 inches away from the top of my muck boot!! Surely it can't get much worse? I've never seen mud like it!!
 
Yes I cant get any of mine out as the ground is so awful and we live on the top of a hill with really rocky underbase and I have never seen it so bad in the 6 years we have lived here
 
fields are awful, turn out maybe twice a week just to let him chill out but not for all that long because if he stays out he starts galloping around - not appreciated by farmer!

school is one big pond, everything gets covered in sand and rubber, it's horrible!

doing most of my schooling out hacking at the moment although can sometimes get a bit hairy in these gales and the torrential rain.

Ours are still out for about 12 hours every day even though the mud is so deep its private land and there are the other 5 who live out 24/7 in it anyway!! Its not fun however trying to walk through it in the dark without falling over!

School on the other hand is fine..... because it drains into one the fields !!
 
Oh yes, it's so wet even the horses are not moving round much. More of a paddling pool than a field, as is the garden. You take your life in your hands moving around outside at the moment, it is treacherous!
 
Our 2 horses live out 24/7 and the field slopes down and the water collects in a dip at the bottom, this pic was taken when we had the frost a few weeks ago and after all the rain lately it is much bigger now than in the pic.

normally its just grass there, now it looks like a pond!
also there is normally 3 ducks make it their home for the winter but they havent come this year!
 
same as amymay - Bloss field has brill drainage, is just a little muddy by the gate. Archie's big field is water free aswell. YO is well organised in that in the winter she rests the fields that she knows will be water logged, we then swap onto them in the summer.
 
I have an ice rink in mine! usually it is a nice little pond, but the temperature has dropped a bit over the last few days and it has frozen solid (Thank God for heated water troughs) The puppy thinks it's a wonderful play pen and my daughter plans to skate on it this evening! Most of my fields are pretty well drained, but even so the ruts and divots are frozen solid and it's painful to watch the horses picking their way over it, they lie on it too even though they have run in sheds full of straw.

Odd that your winter ducks haven't returned this year, but your dog looks as if he's having a marvellous time. Hope it dries up for you soon.
 
Enfys - I would love a frost, just to make a difference to the wading. You guys tend to feel the same as me - never seen a winter this wet. My grazing is all too rich in the summer - so I wanted it to get a hammering over the winter - but this is getting rediculous! Take care paddling everyone. You've made me feel better too btw - I know its not only me now!
 
The Cuckmere River runs around the edge of Axey's field and in weather like this it bursts its banks and floods

Now I know why our fields are called the flood meadows lol! We won't be able to turn out until it goes away but the fields strangely aren't any muddier afterwards so must have quite good drainage.

Yes most of our fields have turned into bogs. We still horses out into them every day though, not quite sure why, they don't seem to like it very much and it only makes the fields worse.
