Is anyone else's horse being K*#$ at the mo??

My girl has been a pain in the bum the past few days, she decided to bomb around the indoor today with me thinking i'm about to come off. Admittedly i lost my stirrup just before but there was hardly any chance that it spooked my usually relatively unspookable horse, she is just being a horror!

In the stable she is more of a grump than usual and almost acting a bit stressed although nothing has changed in her routine and surroundings, except that she has just come out of a short season. I'm wondering if the weather is something to do with it but can't always blame this!
So has anyone else got a horror at the mo?
Oh and is the Oestress supplement any good for grumpy mares? Any experiences welcomed!
 
My mare has been slightly grumpier to handle (she's not at all normally, so that's why I noticed.) However, ridden she's her usual amicable self. Thank God, because I couldn't sit a fart nowerdays!
 
It defiantly has not just been you, all ours at the yard have gone booloo. Had to change my mares bit toda to get some control over her and stop her paddying and bolting! We did have words the other day after she tried to kill me bolting causing another horse to start rearing vertical! :mad: :p she has also been much more grumpy and hot headed. Think something is in the air!
 
The three mares on my yard are very 'hormonal' atm - apparently my gelding is too blame?!

One has just been put on Oestress but still on the loading dose so maybe to early to tell if it is helping.

If it is any consolation there have been a lot of recent reports on the forum of mares having late seasons....
 
I don't get to see mine during the week, but for what it's worth I did get a text tonight from my mum saying that he's being a right Victor Meldrew recently. I rode my share horse tonight and he was really grumpy, too - five minutes of decent work was all I was allowed to have, apparently. I was glad he wasn't fresh though as he's just been fully clipped!

I don't think my boys are enjoying the cold weather!
 
Yep, mine has been particularly bargy and stroppy as well! Considering she used to get a couple of scoops of oats in her feed to liven her up a bit and get some sort of response out of her this really isn't like her haha!
 
Yes my mare has turned spooky, uncooperative, bitey and grumpy since about Sunday! I have had her about two months and she has been in season but was if anything more cuddly, and is normally so good in general, it is a big change!

Had the farrier today and she was a bit of a cow about it, just about got front shoes done but had to leave the backs til next time he is around, I do hope it will pass, have already started browsing for supplements! Very strange... she just seems anxious and there is nothing that has changed other than the weather slightly!
 
Yes, mine is being bargy and crabby and I'm putting it down to being hungry as the grass has stopped growing, but as she is fat I can't stuff her with haylage to make up for it.
 
Both of mine ( mare and gelding) have been grumpy and hyper the last few days. Almost got plowed last night when they decided to have a hooley and tried to do skid stops when they realised they were heading for me
 
Well Ive just been sat watching my 3...all geldings getting extremly silly in the field...pretend spooking and then galloping off...bucking and rearing, farting and then Shrek the haffie decided to 'mount' Red my TB...he was not impressed while Roger our dinky welshie was looking on rather bemused. Today is the first day we have had snow...not alot but it seems to have sent them all lady gaga.
Luckily they are all on there winter break so dont have the worry of trying to ride any of them.
 
Mine is getting a little silly. I have just put it down to less time out in the field, less work as can't bottom him out in the week as either ground or light against me. I school him so theoretically getting the same amount of work but its not the same as making him work the way he does in the summer i.e hill and proper fast work in the week. Feed is being adjusted to compensate so fingers crossed!
 
My mare has been quite grumpy, and all have been playing silly beggars judging by the skid marks appearing in the field :mad::rolleyes:

I did wonder if it's because the grass was still growing but now the colder weather has stopped it so they are a bit more hungary or something (even though they have plenty of hay). Probably a stupid thought, but it was something I mused while poo picking.
 
Thank G*D! I thought it was just mine having a "sense of humour" moment! Mares have been a bit "off" for the past week but the past couple of days have been absolute horrors. One has decided the world is far too spooky a place and she's going to throw her head about and stand at the back of her stable looking like she's regularly beaten with a yard broom (before anyone asks, no she isn't!). The two younger mares who normally co-exist in stables next door to each other with little more than a toddlerish "I'm gonna scowl REALLY REALLY HARD at you if mum gives you hay before me" have resorted to scowling, baring teeth, squealing and yesterday also decided to throw in a stable buck while they were going. All three completed twits to take to & from the field, the youngster particularly making a bit of a fool of herself. The boys haven't been quite as bad, the grumpyish old man hasn't been too much more grumpy but a bit less tolerant of having to wait for food. The middle-ager has been fairly reasonable too, the extent of his rebellion has been to increase the amount of headshaking he does whilst waiting for hay but the youngest gelding I believe has been taking his tips from the girls doing cartwheels around the stable, trying to get away with a bit more than a friendly nip and then jumping six feet in the air when he gets a telling off for it - even though normally he quite frankly couldn't give a monkeys whether I'm cross with him or not! So no, it's definitely not just an isolated incident!!!
