... mine is. starts jogging and prancing a lot more, generally more spooky and on his toes.. anyone elses? Any idea why? With mine, it starts as soon as there is a nip in the air, which is generally before i change/increase feed so it isnt feed related...

and aside from that does anyone find carrots cause spookiness?

If you clip your horses in winter that will be why! Its like us going out with just a t-shirt on when its very cold! Try a quarter sheet or exercise blanket when warming up or out on hacks!

mine is different depending on the sun. on a sunny calm day he's lovely, take the sun away and he's a bit of an idiot, add in a brisk breeze and he's a complete nightmare. Mine is in more in the winter though so i put it down to that and the fact he is just an idiot

he isnt clipped yet.. and getting quite a lot of coat in already, ppfft!

but its cooler here today and a nip in the air and he was back to being more sharp...

just wondered why though?

if i went out in a tshirt in cold weather i dont think id jog sideways or be thinking every leaf was going to eat me?

mine gets more fresh in winter i think it is because it is colder they have more engery and will work harder to get them self warmer!

Toto goes a bit sharp when he's first clipped, but he's pretty much normal when he gets used to it. We keep him warm in a Newmarket exercise sheet when he's ridden

My mare's on the same routine winter and summer -the only exception used to be a sack of carrots each week during winter - she used to be a raving spook-monster - til we cut them out of her diet and then she calmed down

my cob isn't clipped in winter but he is more fizzy etc i think its just because the heat in summer makes him more lathargic

One of ours gets very hyper on carrots. He gets spooky, very nervous and difficult to handle.

No one believed me when I suggested that it was carrots that made him like that but he settled down completely when we stopped feeding them.

He was the same a couple of years ago with sugar beet and settled within a couple of days of taking him off it.

carrots will help towards the spookiness due to they are full of sugars but yes i always say most horses have more engery in winter because it is cold they dont mind getting stupid to get them selfs warmed up plus most people feed more feed in winter as well.
