Is black tack ever acceptable for showing?

I use black all the time for everything, every competition, I’m going to a championship show in October with black tack. I’ve asked a few panel judges and none of them have cared about colour of tack. They care you’re spotlessly turned out etc etc, but unless it’s HOYS etc, black is perfectly fine.

I’ve always used Havana personally but as long as the tack is well fitting and correct for purpose I don’t see why it should be an issue.

Dark brown, a nice neutral one, can make a black coat look blacker, I always advise dark brown.

Absolutely true, yet there is the odd story of "all other things being equal you were placed second for having black tack" - very rare, but it happens.

If you are buying tack sepcifically for showing then buy brown. If you already have black tack then stick with that. Colour really doesn't matter so llong as it isnt patent and piped with hot pink!

Yes, especially at lower levels but even at higher levels it just needs to be discrete, clean, and show off the shoulder - SO many saddles sitting ON the shoulder instead of behind, a good GP behind the shoulder will show it off, you don't need a showing saddle necessarily.

I've a grey Connie. Is black plain tack ok for Connie classes too? I really don't like brown tack at all. Purely personal preference!!
I'm not serious about higher level showing, just happy to go have a day out, from the above it looks like black tack is fine to stick with :)

The class makes no difference whatsoever.
