Is H&C TV worth it?

Wanting to watch more of the eventing/dressage/sj that are going on this year. I know they do Badminton, Burghley etc., but price has always seemed too much for just a couple of events. If I'm wanting to watch as many as possible has anyone who has it for this purpose found it useful or is there better? Would I have to pay again to watch the 5* events?

(Used to watch on Skybox but have moved away from home now and I think they stopped putting it on there if I'm correct?)

It doesn’t have a lot of the stuff I want to watch.. it seems to show lots of American events and not so many UK, also quite a bit of show jumping which I’m not keen on . It has some BD events but again not always the ones I want to watch. I forgot to cancel the annual fee so keep checking to see if there is anything worth watching but haven’t found much.. I think clip my horse is better although I did manage to cancel that because I have no money at the moment.. I think you might be able to take out a free trial of CMH , you give your card details and if you don’t cancel they take the subscription

They don’t cover Badminton or Burghley but do have a quite a bit of other eventing to watch. The rest of the content is pretty rubbish, just a couple of vaguely interesting things. I have it because I'm an eventing geek and like to watch everything

No it's not worth it- it's glitchy to use, the search is useless and quite often it pretends it can't play whatever it is you want, when you finally find it!

Also if you want Badminton and Burghley, you will be disappointed as they air on their own Web based channels now.

As one off use and abuse pay for a month only it was ok, but now they've done away with that, I'd save your money.

Badminton and Burghley are separate entities anyway!

Can someone remind me which events are shown just on H&C? I used to subscribe for the odd month here and there to watch specific events, but they've now cracked down on that.

Bicton?

Currently £59.99 per annum.

Didn't Bicton do their own, or am I thinking of another event?

Not really, I'm about to cancel my subscription after I watch Wandin International (which the past few years showed ALL classes from 80-4*, free on the Wandin website, now sadly only the international classes on H&C).
I find it super glitchy to use, the search function doesn't work etc. The fact that the big events like Badminton and Burghley aren't on is also disappointing. The pop up Bicton 5* needed another subscription to finish watching it 🥴
When I first joined a couple of years ago, there was heaps of past Badminton/burghley videos to watch, which have now disappeared. I love the concept, but it misses the mark.

No! I subscribed to watch All Stars for the first time, and managed to watch all the old series too. But it is a very poor site/app, glitchy and some of the video is horrendous quality.

Some of the programmes are so badly edited, and made, they became unwatchable for me as I have seen college level media studies students put together better content.

That said, if you had a specific event you wanted to watch - not Badminton or Burghley as they aren’t on there - you could subscribe for that month and cancel in the future. There’s so little worth watching on there you may even watch everything you want too and the event within a month!

They do show the 2 US 5*s, Lumuhlen and Pau which are good viewing.
Ah, thanks, it'll be the months that those events were held that I joined for, and then cancelled til the next interesting (to me) event came on. H&C have since made it much harder to hop on and hop off with a per month subscription.

I *think* that they also covered Bicton the year it ran a 5* in place of the cancelled Burghley, maybe in 2021? The coverage itself and the commentators are IMHO quite good but the damn feed keeps freezing - I spend too much time cursing at a frozen screen and a whirly wheel 😬.

I now buy into the Badminton and Burghley subscription only tv packages, they are good. I like watching the trot ups etc, not just the competition proper.

Are they going to be showing Kentucky does anyone know? Hope someone else has it.. agree prefer the separate coverage for Badminton and Burghley.

Well luckily there are a few more eventing geeks and we all live on Discord!! This is the eventing streaming schedule

Jenny Rudall is leaving H&C so it will be interesting what direction it takes. She likes the elite level sport. The two most popular shows on H&C are Swipe up and Kick on and Allstars.
I have moaned to someone who can influence about the editing before as good content often gets cut. I have also moaned on every single H&C survey about how crap the app is, why can’t I get it working on my tv via my firestick and how crap the website it.

Thanks for that! I see Adelaide is on h&c but nothing is listed for kentucky yet. Can't remember where I watched it last year. Looking forward to watching all the action this year.

It was on H&C as normally we have a watch party. Being saddo geeks we get a lot of friends round and watch all the 5* together

I looked at H&C and Clip My Horse last year, I decided on Clip My Horse as it just seemed to have so much more stuff on it. I have cancelled it recently, only due to money but plan to have it again at some point. It didnt have masses of eventing but did here and there, mainly show jumping and dressage, along with auctions etc. They show quite bizarre things on it like I watched tiny x-pole pony club jumping from somewhere in Europe etc. They also seem to have a lot of footage at the beginning with nothing happening, like you'll just watch the score boards or empty ring for 10 mins before anything happens and I couldnt forward it as it would go crazy if I tried that. Its a real shame there isnt a main platform that is professional and shows all the eventing things. I can never warrant paying out the crazy prices to watch Badminton etc.

I think my H&C subscription is good value as an eventing geek. I've sat down and watched hours and hours of events that I rode round last year so that I could watch how everyone else tackled the same course I rode round at Chatsworth and Gatcombe. That's pretty priceless education, learned a lot from doing that. I also watch pretty much every minute of the XC coverage they have from other events, including the US coverage which tends to be pretty good. Would say its good value for £5.99 a month if you're really into actually watching lots of XC.
