Has anybody else noticed how H&H is Cleveland Bay adverse? There is a news item about New Forest pony numbers falling it then goes on to talk about other rare breeds but no mention of the Cleveland Bay. Last year they wrote a whole article about the queen’s horse and again not a mention. In 2012 there were only 21 pure breed foals born in the UK. So please H&H when you are talking rare breeds give the Cleveland Bay a mention.

WELL SAID !!!! The most wonderful breed of horse and rapidly declining numbers.Best horse I ever owned was a Cleveland. Miss him lots.

I did also notice that, and think H&H could do a lot to educate people about the breed, especially given how suitable CBs would be for a lot of HHOer types, either as pure bred or part bred.

I no longer receive H&H as it takes 3 weeks to cross the channel, so can't comment on recent articles. I used to keep a file of press clippings on the CB many from H&H. I am a CBHS member and think we could do much more to promote the success of the breed.

I believe this is going to be addressed with regular press information being sent out on newsworthy items.

I send personal emails to both the editor and news editor and ALWAYS get a nice reply. Recently H&H put my new filly and her dam on their Facebook page - which got plenty of viewings and nice comments.

It is not just H&H, it is Ascot week and when the Royal Carriage procession makes its way down the course, Claire Balding refers to the Windsor Greys (no such breed) but never the Cleveland Bays, this in spite of the fact I personally write EVERY YEAR and ask if they could be mentioned.

Have to agree with this
Oathill take the biscuit was on the front cover of H&H no mention of the fact its part bred cleveland bay
All that was said was the bay horse, they usually mention breeding
They have also done articles on rare breeds and never a mention for cleveland bays

Today there is an article,

"From Prince George to King George. In honour of the naming of Prince George, we take a look at equestrian events in the UK named for his forefathers — King George V and King George VI"

And again no mention of the KGV Stallion cup presented each year for the best Cleveland Bay stallion, and what a big cup it is!

It's no wonder the critically endangered breed struggles, with friends like HHO failing to take any opportunities to mention them, who needs enemies!

Perhaps there is no mention of King George V because in recent years it has been poorly supported. Why not write to the Editor and draw attention to this oversight?

If we want more 'air time' for the CB, then CBHS need to make sure that the equestrian press is kept informed of CB successes. I think Oathill take the Biscuit had just a small percentage of CB blood so unless you are an enthusiast you would not know.

There have recently been two pure bred successes at a one day event and at a HOYS qualifier. If you are members of CBHS ask Council on the CBHS forum if Press Releases have been sent out. I don't think they have.

Some two months ago questionnaires were sent out for a CB Census in the UK. It has come to my attention, as a member, that so far there has been no publicity for this in the equestrian press or on social media. I assume that the only people who are aware of the Census are existing members of the society.

The article was about equestrian events and competitions with "King George " theme not whether they are well supported
Who is the press officer for the cleveland bays as it is their responsibility to get press coverage. If this isnt happening they are letting the cleveland bay down

Are you a member of CBHS? If so you can look at minutes of Council Meetings on line, which will tell you who does what.

Certainly the new Chair of the Promotions Committee has produced the best newsletters and magazines we have seen in years. I am delighted that the CBHS calender was produced in time for GYS as it means I can get my order shipped to France and distributed to 'fans' before Christmas.

Also features in The Horse magazine, one of my mares is in the article. Pony Annual, two of my horses are on that page.

Have you tried writing to the Editor of H&H asking if they are Cleveland Bay averse? If you get a 'star' letter you might win a bottle of Bolly..AB FAB.

I dont think it really matters if i am a member or not im not in charge of promoting the cleveland bay
I also dont believe it benefits the cleveland bay by me taking time to find out who is in charge of promotions
What does matter is that whowever has this important position they should be doing a good job
newsletters and magazines would probably only be red by already cleveland bay fans so not exposing cleveland bays to the wider public.
Again most likely the only people to buy a calender would be people already involved with the cleveland bay
as mentioned you bought yours to distribute to "fans"
Thats very nice to here that your horses have got some media coverage but i am sure that there are alot more cleveland bays that should also be getting a mention
This doesnt seem to be the case

People who are members of Council are not paid for their work. Several who have to undertake very long journeys to attend meetings incur substantial personal travel and hotel costs. Out of their own pockets, especially members in the south who have to travel to Yorkshire.

Perhaps you could write to CBHS with some positive contributions of your own and suggestions as to how they could do better. If you are a breed enthusiast you will want to do everything within your power to help things along. Why not offer your services to assist with publicity and admin as you have some good ideas?

Just to correct the 'impression' which may be given by your statement that it is nice my horses were selected.

I just wanted to check my facts. An announcement was put on CBHS PUBLIC Forum asking people to submit photos of their Cleveland Bays - this is what I did. Anyone who owns a Cleveland Bay had an opportunity to do the same. I do not influence editors decisions!!! I am pleased if some of my photos are liked.

Perhaps you are right only the people who have the time to give their position on council the attention it should rightly deserve should serve and if they cant do the position justice they should consider stepping down

why don't you join the council? Perhaphs the people involved don't step down because there isn't anyone to step up after them? We see it in voluntary groups all the time. It's very easy to criticise from the sidelines, but you are not the person trying to do voluntary work and balancing your family/home life.

Why don't you be more proactive and if you don't like the current council, apply for it and change it.

As I started this thread I am delighted to see Tranmire Sir George make the H&H web page and what lovely photos. Well done H&H lets hope its the first of many!
