Well at least you're not buying pet shop hay for a rabbit - non horsey friend bought a bag, less than half a slice, from a local shop and was charged £4.99!!! I said she could come round and pick up the loose from the bottom of our hay in the barn and I'd charge her £1 (and it'd save me a job tidying up)
Our issue in our bit of the Thames Valley is we missed out on the rain that came down from the north AND the lot that came up from the south coast so only had 2 days of rain in about 6 weeks. Consequently, as much of our hay is grown on gravel and is well drained - so much so last winter was the first year we saw mud in our top field albeit only the top half inch, it's not going to be a good year for hay for us.
Have had to buy in some to tide us over till we cut ours and they said it was the nicest quality hay he's ever made but the quantity wasn't as good, however he's hoping to get a second cut in August.
