As you probably all know by now I have really struggled with Red's weight since I got him but I think we're finally there! I have upped his feed to 1xround scoop Dengie, 1xsquare scoop pony nuts, 1xsquare scoop Speedibeet and 2xwash powder scoop Blue Chip Original twice a day and two haynets worth of hay in his haybar overnight and a round hay bale in the field in the day  He's not being worked currently due to weather and is 17hh and TBxWB :)
This was him a few weeks ago:

And now....

A bit ribbier on this side...

He looks very long in the back with stump legs in these pics but I'm not sure why :p

So, what do you think? :D

he has improved loads
Looks lovely:D Its really hard to keep that breed average weight throughout winter and you done a good job:D
Maybe just the tiniest bit more weight because as you said he is ribbier on the other side:)

He looks great imo... it is strange about the ribbiness on one side, I wonder if it's just due to working one side more than the other in the past - muscle wastage?? I can't find your last post so can't remember if we all agreed it was muscular or not... but hey, he looks great and can't see that he's long in the back... had one of those once

He's such a nice horse, and you've obviously done wonders with him. Imagine how much he's going to improve once you are able to work him! Great stuff, keep it up :)

The last thread made me up his feed and I'm so glad I did! Someone on here PMed me when I put that thread up- turns out they kept their horse in the next stable along from him when his owner before last had him :D She said that he was always like that when the other lady had him so it must just be the way he's built :) Must just be me who thinks his back looks long in the pics- it usually looks fine though!

Thanks- it's my obsession if you hadn't noticed ;) I'm glad you all think he looks well, maybe a tad more though? :p I don't think I could be much happier about his weight than I am now, it's nice to see the results finally though! :D

Hes looking good, hope you dont mind me saying but with the blue chip you dont really need to bother with the pony nuts, better off to feed a handfull more of blue chip.. on average measure your blue chip via a tea cup mug size.

also, you could replace the dengie with alfa a oil.

Feed is in with the livery bill apart from the Blue Chip, I would buy the Alfa A instead BUT livery is v.cheap for what I get and I'd feel really cheeky asking for money off and buying the feed myself so I just go with what I'm given- I get full livery for £45pw  I think he's still got the potential to gain more weight with what he's currently being fed but we'll see how it goes, thanks, I will bear it in mind though :)
ETA- thanks Robyn :D

Hes looking better!!!! Personally id like to see a little more weight on him. Id possibly up the blue chip if you dont want to give him a different feed. I think some gentle work to improve muscle tone would help too! He's looking good well done :)

Sorry i would wan't slightly more condition on him for the winter, mind you with the weather how it is working horses in nigh impossible so its better to be slightly under imo than hugely over which is how some will end up unfortunately not a lot can be be donen about it in these conditions though

We've had lots of snow recently and it's only just melted but school is sand and frozen solid so working him isn't possible at the moment :(

Idealy I would have more on him too but I'm starting to think that it's impossible to be honest, I have spent over a year and a half trying to get to the stage I'm at! I think the hollowness around his hips is just how he's built, he has improved loads though
Last June I'd had him about a month- look at those hip bones!

I think his topline is alot better if anything- I can't believe how he used to look!

He looks like such a lovely boy and yes some horses are just built with character and he is just a lean machine!!! :D:D

I have the opposite problem which I think is twice as bad as having a beanpole...

Haha! He certainly is! :p See, I would say the opposite I'd rather have an overweight one and have to shift the weight than try and put it on but that's only cos Red is a pain up the backside! ;) :p
