We havent ever competed with showing and took him out (just for the experience) we entered him in a general class and the judge said he should be shown as a cob??

He's lovely!!

I love how even his socks are.

How tall is he?

He's def cob shaped and I think he'd do well

but you need a showing person to tell you better than I can.

Thankyou! He is my 16 year old daughters horse and an absolute star!

His pasport says 15hh but I think he is slightly under that although he carries himself 'big' if that makes sense!!

We are total novices regarding showing but thought it might be nice to do something different with him for a change.

Echo Three - how big

He definatly looks show cob stamp to me (i am not expert tho!)
Most cobs who do very well are at the upper end of the height limit - 15.1

They're very sweet, it's as if he's put his best hockey socks on and pulled them all up!

He's definitely a cob - I can't help too much as I show a Welsh Cob rather than the chunky sort but my first thought is that the rider needs a smaller jacket, lol! A fitted green tweed would be much more flattering and help the overall picture. Wouldn't hurt to lose the numnah and a couple of inches off the tail, too.

Lol you are right- the jacket is big enough for her to wear a body protector under for hunting (me being a paranoid Mum insist she wear one!!)
Never thought of green tho - will have to look!!

Good for you for getting out there and for turning him out so nicely. He's a lovely sort. I would def think cob especially if he has no mane! I'm no expert but I would think he's a tad light to go to county level, but who cares? Out of interest, what class were you in? The big black one looks like a chunky monkey too! And ditto, those socks are awesome and very white!

Definately a cob! Rider will want shirt and tie, and definately lose the numnah, but you could use a brown fleece half-pad. I personally would lose a bit off of the tail, and rider would want a shirt and tie. He would look GREAT in a pelham or double bridle!

Enjoy your showing!!!

hi, depending on his height, i think he could make a very nice show cob. if you are thinking of going up to county level, then you would need to use brown/havana tack. he would also need to go in a pelham or double bridle. but other than that, i think he could do well. x

He is lovely and I think he should do well at local level, he is imo too small to show county, if you go to any of these shows you will see they are all huge.

I think you would have a lot of fun showing him as a cob - are you aiming at Riding Club cob classes?

If he goes in a pelham or a double that would finish his head off and be more correct.

He's lovely!

He is a lovely chap, I love his neat socks too

I am not sure about showing him, only personally had welsh cobs before so a different sort to him if you know what I mean

You can only give it a try I suppose and see how you get on

im no showing expert- although enter randomly showing classes for the jumping and then get placed

i think he looks great! and love the socks- bless him

VERY clean!

He's a lovely horse!

If you want to take him county level show cob you would really need to beef him up a bit - honestly they are built like tanks!

(and the judges would point this out to you when you show him)
Good luck!

Def a cob, would need to be measured to be shown county level, and registered with BSHA looks like a light weight but looks like could go H/W if furnished up as seems to have enough bone, seems lovely sort how old? could do workers as well if you enjoy jumping/hunting max fence is 2'9'' lovely chap, as said above would need different bit etc but all easy changes to make

He does jump well just he hates coloured poles - rustic are no problem as he will jump anything out hunting!

We were told to put him in a pelham + double reins for the next show we did (Only ever did the 2) I should have posted this one first time!

He's really nice. He looks small because the other horses are a lot bigger and without knowing their heights its impossible to tell whether he's a big or small 15hh.

I would do a few more local shows to build up your confidence and if you want to try a small County show then go for it, I would thin his tail out as most show cobs have pulled or shaved tails.

His noseband might want to go up a hole.

This site is quite good for show info.

I think he's lovely, agree with a bit off his tail but his sock look fabulous.
Remember to use a slip head if you are using a rugby pelham though.
Being really picky i don't like the buckles on the bridle but the proper wide noseband makes him look lovely

Thankyou.

The bridle is his hunting one :-) so I would need to buy him new tack if we tried to show properly - Brown I think? I think that may be my next post....which is the best show bridle for a cob!!

He's lovely. I wish my boy had such even socks!

Ditto what other have said about turnout - it's all little picky things but it can make a huge different to the overall picture! The looks lovely in a pelham - that's a rugby you've got so get a headslip and attatch it to the second ring so it looks even more like a double.

And ditto what others have said about his weight - he currently looks a perfect weight, which means he's too thin for showing

You will get loads of judges telling you put more 'condition' on him (i.e make him fatter) but I'd be inclined to ignore them, for his health!

Echo the others

Brown tack

Nose band up a hole

add a slip head

No numnah or small one same colour saddle

Shirt and tie

and he needs to be a little heavier particularly top line

All things that you can do and he WILL be super!!!

No not heavy weight not enough bone I had a heavy weight. He was 15.3hh and built like a tank, lost at 11 years old with heart attack. If you put the weight on him might make M/W, but I'd keep him at L/W.

Yes, show as a cob, but he needs more neck on him first! He looks a bit weak. Pull his tail, get a green tweed more fitted jacket and velvet show hat. Lose Numnah, and change the head piece on the bridle to something slightly thinner with silver buckles. He needs to ride in a pelham or double as said before and needs condition (and by this I mean muscle not fat!) . Do these things and you'll clean up locally next season!
