I sent my 3 yo to have some intensive hacking for 2 weeks after a car accident knocked both his and my confidence about 2 months ago. The lady who had him for 2 weeks has said he's amazing and did everything that was asked of him including motorway bridges/hacking alone/in pairs and in a group. He not once put a foot wrong. I walked over to her yard today to pick him up/hack him back and she said I should go for a canter up the common as he has an amazing mature/smooth canter.
So I got to a good slight uphill and nope he would't go, cue side stepping/shaking of the head/huffing/going backwards etc etc.
After 10 min I did eventually get a canter- and a nice one at that, but it took an argument and a good few pony club kicks which i've never had to do before.
All the way home he kept snatching and head tossing although did actually do as told e.g stand at gates, move over for cars etc.
I rang her up to ask if she'd experienced any nappy behaviour from him and how she'd handle it- but she haid other than the first day of his arrival when he was a bit noddy and on his toes he's been an angel.
So, i'm hoping he's just testing me what do you think?
