We went hunting for the first time last week, me and horse. Since then I just cannot wait to go again. I had zero brakes and at times it was very hairy, for the first hour I tried to stay near the back and it was a huge mistake. Wanted to go home but didn't know the way, and was advised by many others to stay out a bit so horse would calm down. I did, let horse get to the front and then had the best time of our lives!

I am just dying to go again but only know about the Boxing Day and NY meets which I think might be a bad idea for a newbie who sort of knows the drill, if you get what I mean. But I just cannot wait for the next time, even though horse seems to have slightly lost the plot since we went! Does this happen to everyone?!

Yes! This is my first season hunting and I absolutely love it.
My only downfall is I hate being at the back, nothing to do with the horse, though most I take don't like being at the back anyway but I am used to being up front with the fieldmaster so hate it when I get pushed to the back.

yup - i've been twice and despite falling off in a rather large puddle (aka lake!) at the end of the 2nd one, having naff all brakes and a pony who insists on snatching the reins out of my hands i loved it. i think it's just a little bit on the dangerous side which gets your adrenaline up and we all know how additive an adrenaline rush is. it takes me several days to come down from the high as well! i'm counting down the hours till boxing day. sod dressage - this is much more fun!

Yes it was! I really hope I didn't cut you up/splatter you with mud/belt past you because I did all three at least once :( but will be better next time in a pelham and with more of an idea!!! Were you one of the kind people who spoke to me and gave me advice? Everyone was so nice to me, it made the whole day brilliant. I didn't have the first clue and was petrified at first so apologies if I made no sense if you spoke to me!! :)

LOL, no from what I could see you were doing very well :) I was on a very hairy 14hh pony and helped you get down a very steep bank early on in the day. Glad you enjoyed yourself, oh and yes watch out hunting is very addictive!

I think I remember you, very pretty and very helpful! You saw me at my worst lol, start of the day and with vertigo! Later on I just let him go down banks at his own pace - helluva buzz though I did nearly kill a bloke in a gateway once!! Are you going again soon? I need someone to make me jump, I didn't do any jumping at all :( head a bit messy and there were only 2 chances that I remember! Are you going on NY day?

Not sure If I am going again for a while, my little hunting pony should be going out on loan, thats why she isn't clipped! And neither of my horses are fit at the moment but maybe if I get my act together!

Lil_Ponios_Rock do you hunt with the VWH often? As I go out with them sometimes too.

Gosh its a small world :)
