Hello everyone

There're a lot of threads about hunting on this forum and that's not something very commun in my country, so I wonder if it's because we are on the "horses and hounds" forum or if it's really something that most english riders do once in a while.

Very common and popular, most hunts average each meet main season about 60+ riders, then the 'big' hunts which can have well over 150-200 people out, plus then foot followers, the actual huntsmen, supporters, etc.

Most hunts meet at least twice a week, some even 3 or 4.

Yes it is very popular over here and most riders will give it a go at some point. There are even children hunts. It is quite well organised and you can go to beginners meets to start with and see what this is about and learn about the rules and dress code.

I have never heard of or seen a hunt in France unless maybe near the Chateaux de la Loire!

That's the beauty of the Uk you can have a go at many things whatever your level. I don't because i am not very brave but if you are you can have lots of fun with your horse.

I live in the Shires, where some of the biggest hunting country is (that is big jumping, fast galloping days) and I think most of my friends have hunted a few days here and there, if not on a semi regular or regular basis.

I'd certainly be out far more often if work didn't get in the way!

It is incredibly popular where we are, there are 4 well known hunts on our doorstep and most people I know support, follow or ride.My eldest daughter went out properly with the Quorn for the first time when she was 8 .The youngest went out at 7 and they both made me very proud.
