Last month tilly (JRT) had to have a steroid injection due to going itchy all over and her biting her hair out around her back end and on her back near her tail, this all subsided until a few days ago I noticed her chewing again, so I booked her in at vets this morning and now they think it is an allergy to grass, so have now given me a 2 week course of steroid tablets and piriton tablets to see if this subsides.

Last year she had this problem but only had 2 injections, one in june and the other october, do you think that her allergy is getting worse or could it be an allergy to something different, if this doesn't work then they said to go down the route of blood tests.
She is fed on Eukanuba terrier dried.

Crunchies or buttons to anyone with ideas

Yes her allergy could be getting worse - I would try giving her some aloe vera juice on her biccies - is really calming and soothing on skin conditions of all sorts - especially allergic reactions. Will help her stop itching and scratching. Unless you go through the whole allergy testing thing you may never find out what she is allergic to - if it was grass you would think it would be bad for a greater part of the year. Is her food gluten free? Cereals in foods can bother their skin too.

could be harvest mites? little orange things, often spotted between the toes? wash in deresect (spelling) shampoo weekly and inspect every few days. i think front line and spot on deal with this if applied monthly ??? talk to vet

Our Lab pup is very itchy and we have narrowed it down to cereal in food (he went ballistic with scratching after a few days of Chappie which is full of cereal) We are moving him on to a Raw diet and the scratching has improved no end and his poos have also firmed up.

I have a similar problem with my horse, a ten year old Welsh Section D who lives just outside Edinburgh. Her itching started around April/May time. I have tried everything from blood tests, skin scrapings, desect, regular washes, fly rug, steroids but nothing kills the itch 6 months on. This is the first year I have had problems (had her 5 years) and nothing in her environment has changed. She was in at the hospital last week for allery testing and a few things have shown up, Red Clover in particualr but we dont have any in the fields. The vets are not rulling out an allergy to grass. We are going down the immunology route of making vaccines but dont know if this will work.

Are these pictures of your horse? She looks like the double image of my mare. Is she a section D? My mare came from Devon, you never know might be related!

My horses case may be on STV next year as the hospital are running a new documentary on Vet School and we were filmed last week.
