Is it BAD to give horse another wormer 2 weeks after having 1?

Just moved my horse to his winter yard, he was there last winter and i took him home for the summer so he could be out 24/7 and now i have moved him so he can come in at night.

I wormed him a couple of weeks ago cos a worm count came back with results showing he had a low count of worms, and as he is a wormy horse i didn't hesitate to worm him.

Now i've moved him he has to be wormed again with equest pramox, which was the same wormer as before. Will it harm him? I don't like putting too many chemicals in my horse but YO said i have to.

I wasnt sure if i'd be moving him as he was potentially written off 2 weeks ago with wobblers, but now he's had an injection for spinal cord compression and he's allowed to be ridden. Hence why at the time i just wormed him.

What are your thoughts?

I did this with my filly when I got her home from stud last month. She looked dreadful. I wormed her with Eqvalan and then with Pramox two weeks later. The vet ran blood tests last week and she was clear of worms. And is looking a whole lot better.

IMO it wont do any harm as a one-off.
 
I guess the only other option is to see if YO would accept another worm count? Would need faecal and bloods though. I also don[t understand why you wormed after getting a low count result? You are not meant to worm if its a low count, only if its medium or high.

If you do have to use a chemical, you should use the other chemical group to what you used before for the least resistance - the YO should know this though.

BTW I'm not a vet, but my horse nearly died from worm related colic a couple of months back and so I had lots of info from vet/ RVC/ my own research/ worm count companies etc.!
 
It's not ideal, but if you really have to, i don't think itwill do any harm. I too don't understand why you wormed with a low count, but your choise and it's done now.
