Hey all,

twig is five this year. Shes been to a couple of dressage comps (won and placed) and is jumping sweetly at home but not very big yet and not out of canter all the time but willing non the less.

There is a byeh qualifier near me at the end of june (I'm lucky there are quite a few in my area) do you think its being a bit ambitious for me to be thinking I could have her ready for one of these by then? I havent done one before

but she really is the right make and shape to do well in it.

The only ones I have watched before have been at bramham although there are a couple in yorks region come may time so I may go have a nosey and see what they are like.

Its just wether I can get the jumping sorted really! we havent jumped her any bigger than 2'6 really (and not in public yet!) and I think the 5yo's are 1.05? are they generally full up/ tricky/scary?

I still havent got her canter established yet really. Shes very long and likes to use her head and neck in canter as a 5th leg (poss due to the racing background?!)

Does anyone know which qualifiers are nice in the notheren region? Bramham did look very scary with lots to look at!

I would just see how she goes and do like a monthly review.

Also i find it helpful that when working towards something to do a plan of what work your are going to do with them, thinking about how it should benefit them, also keeping it varied.

But there is nothing wrong with having a goal to work towards i find it all more exciting then, also if you get there you will be super happy

I did the 5yo's at Bramham this year and it is a bit of an eyeful for them, but there are others like Ryedale Show, Rutland Show, where the atmosphere isn't so electric. I would plan to do a few because I think it's really good experience for them, and as long as you accept that it's a show class, not a performance class, and you are happy with how she goes, then it's worth the effort.
