Had my vet out today, who said my 5yr old was tight in his neck & suggested having the physio out to see him. So I rang her straight away & booked her to come out in 3 weeks time, we have had her before & most people on the yard use her as she is very good & she works along side our vets so if they ever suggest physio it's her they refer people to. Now she charges £65, so in the mean time I have contacted my instructor that I have just started using to say I will be putting lessons on hold until he is sorted & she has told me her mum is an equine sport therapist & charges around £30.

So would you pay that little bit extra & stick to what you know or give the other lady a try.... Hmm decisions!

A sport massage is not as deep as physio, it may make the horse feel better but rarely gets to the bottom of the problem, I find one visit from my physio is usually enough to get things sorted whereas people seem to need several sessions of massage and it is still often in need of further proper treatment.

Massage is ideal after the physio has got the muscles working properly, or for maintenance.

Just spoke to my instructor & she said her mum spends a good hour working on them. I normaly like to stick to what I know hence my question :)

Thankyou for the reply's :)

I'd also go with the physio, for the two reasons stated above - not only do you know they're "vet approved" but the physio will probably be more effective for now.

I'd go with the original physio. I've been in a very similar position to you and went for the cheaper option as I thought they'd do a good enough job, but ended up needing the physio out too anyway as there was no real improvement, so spent more than if i'd just had them first!

Yes I'd go with physio on the basis that you might end up having to get it anyway if the other treatment doesn't work, and you have a bit more peace of mind that it has worked if a physio says it has.

I'd not only stick with the physio but would also be considering looking for another instructor, yours doesn't sound very ethical imo.

I won't be changing instructor, she only mentioned her mum as she didn't know I had already got a physio sorted & booked, so she had mentioend her mum incase I was looking for one & it was me that asked how much she charged out of itnerest. She was only trying to help :)
