I was wondering how bad the market is for selling horses ? I have a lovely andalusian x thoroughbred 2 year old who I really dont want to sell but due to house not selling finances dictate he might have to go, is it even worth advertising him ? I'm in herts so quite central for viewings etc but dont want to waste money advertising him if the market for horses is on the floor, is it worth trying ?

The market isn't so good at the moment and hasn't been for a while but there are still people buying, it just depends if someone is after the kind of horse you are selling and at what price. You could always try on the free websites first to see if you get a response, that way you haven't wasted any money.

I think the problem is your youngsters age.

Within a week and a half of the first advert, I had viewings, offers, a vetting and my 3 year old went - I had been concerned that a big young horse, who was bay (I love them but I know some people want coloureds and he could have been seen as "another bay") would not go at all.

However, I think that his age was in his favour. He is at the age where backing can begin and at 2 years old, I think people may be of the view that he is a year too young. Due to the cost of keeping a horse rising, I have found people want something they can "do" now - be it riding or beginning the backing process.

There are people buying out there but there are a lot of horses for them to pick from, so if you are desperate to secure the sale at some point, price will need to be realistic and perhaps below what you paid for him originally (I don't know much about him from your post so a few assumptions in here!!).

Good luck with whatever you decide. From an advertising point of view, I used H&H and had a few responses but they were very slow. Within 5 mins of my Horsemart ad going live I had my first call. Horse Hunter was another good one and was free. Are there any specialist Spanish horse sale websites you could use?
