I wondered if anyone could give me some advice.
My rising 5 Gelding was bought as a total plod, which he was!
We moved yards and he got very fizzy and nappy. I put it down to new place and him being a baby.
He has been at the yard for about 6 weeks now and he has actually got worse rather than better.
I have been riding him as mum gets worried easily and is nervous, although she will school him in a part of the feild still just not take him round all the land (have 160 arces to hack round)
Then i realised his feed changed at a similar time. He went from having cool mix, happy hoof and a balencer to having a different version of chaff called Healthy hoof, balencer, garlic - no mix but having Fast fibre and also haveing a few carrots in his night time feed

Could it be his feed or is he just taking the mick. He has done a few 'rears' extremly tiny but he still does them! and jogs constantly. If i pull him back to stop him jogging he does his rears, if i push on he canters
I am not a total novice but he is my first youngster and dont want to be pushing when i should be pulling if you get me?

Any ideas?

I would change his feed to nothing more than happy hoof and hay and go from there.

if he is living in rather than out he will have more 'disposable' energy too. plenty of 'dopes' become very different when stabled and not out 24/7

prehaps lunge him before riding and really make him work it, keep his mind occupied.

It will be the feed, try and cut out any molasses and stop the carrots as a first line of trying, also the alfalfa made our Appy mare bonkers and dangerous (turned a normally spooky mare into a monster and nappy)
