Ok, so new boy is going a treat. A couple of days ago we took him in the new school. I rode for a bit then my girl hopped on, schooled for a bit then popped some jumps.
Today went to tack up, and when we put the saddle on, he nodded his head. Went to girth him up and he ran backwards, snapped his string and then stood with bulging eyes.
This is totally unseen behaviour before today.

Took saddle off and went over his back which seems fine, checked saddle, numnah for any faults. Nothing there either.
Ran my hand under his belly, from front to back, and when i touched him, he tucked up away from me. He seems quite tender from where his girth would sit, to his sheath almost.
Does it sound like he's pulled some muscles. He isn't very fit, and i now feel a bit guilty for maybe diong too much too soon with him.

Am hoping it is just sore muscles. Turned him out and watched him for a bit he seems fine. Hoping a week off will do the trick.

Could it be anything more serious do you think??

Not sure maybe it is, could he be cold backed but then thats not going to cause him to tuck up when you touch under his belly? Maybe he has pulled something. Sorry rubbish help but oh well. xx Oh and get his saddle checked maybe he is flinching from that oh ignore me

Hi, it sounds like he is a little tight under his belly, a lot of horses are sensitive under here anyway. Did you tighten the girth up a little too tight as it may have bruised him a little.
Try massaging his belly gently in circles to try and loosen it off a little, also try using a sheepskin girth cover if he is sensitive.
