I am wilting by 9 am so try and have done all the outdoor stuff by then. Long-reined round our shady small roads this morning then in the indoor school for faster work and a try at some liberty high jinks. I am astonished there is never anybody in the indoor before 9am but grateful that I have somewhere to give fatty Woody some decent exercise. I would appreciate a lie in though once it gets cooler.

Same, I feel like my batteries are running down in this heat. I literally ran out of energy yesterday after the dog walk and shopping. So I did loads of cleaning. Even washing up is tricky, the sun is full blast on the huge kitchen window where the sink is.

My long term concern is the prices and availability (of hay/feed for horse owners/farmers) and of bog standard food for humans. Looking at the blackberries that were out very early, I wonder if we’re going to be paying crazy amounts for normal stuff eg bread. Presumably people are harvesting early?

Can't stand it. This is as boring for me as when its pissing with rain tbh. Not been for one canter in the stubble which is unheard of for me. Looks like theres been sn earthquake. My old mare with dust allergy who normally only coughs in the winter, is coughing now out in the field because the ground is so dry and dusty. The dog is bored, im bored. If this is the shape of things to come i will have to change how I manage everything.

I guess I am the only crazy one who is doing heavy garden/yard work in this ?? I've been working on removing a pond in my back garden while everything is dry. I've also taken up a small patio and started filling in with dirt and hacking up logs to spread around. Been thinking it's better to get as much heavy stuff removed from the yard now before it becomes even heavier when wet but looks like I am getting to a point now where I am going to have to wait until the ground softens.

I think my house would love some cooler and possibly rainy weather as it will then actually get cleaned....no point when I am working in the garden and/or come home from the yard as my own dustbowl.

I hate it!
I'm getting two horses ridden and the field poo picked before 9.30. My boys have plenty of shade. Then I'm hiding indoors all day. Unfortunately I work Saturday/Sunday evening delivering groceries for Tesco. so not looking forward to a couple of very unpleasant runs - we have no air con in our vans and there is a lot of lifting and carrying involved -I just thank god I don't work days!

I wouldn't mind it half as much if I were not working - heat during the work week is so annoying.

It's relentless - the ground here is like concrete everywhere and my horse is fat again off of the short grass and lack of exercise.

Unbearable, we are tinder dry in Suffolk, not a blade of grass to be seen and there was a field/hedge fire locally, I think a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone who follows me on FB knows I had to put up tarps and blankets over the front of the house for the 40C days because it's so badly designed for hot weather, but OH has decided against it this time. However, I will say that shading the outside of the windows does make a lot of difference, better than just drawing curtains. My office is currently 29C. I don't glow, I sweat and I hate it.

Glad we're building our own, with all this taken into account! I'm off to NI tomorrow, and it's cool and raining, less than ideal for saddle fitting for a whole week, and then to Blair Horse Trials that are looking chilly but dry, better than rain for a trade stand and camping I guess! I'd love just some normal summer weather. Pretty please.

Roll on autumn.

Lc - I spent 2 hours on the phone to 101 only to be to told there is nothing they can do. They did say though that if it happens again, to ring 999 for the fire brigade ( I couldn’t see the bonfire at 4am - it was crackling away higher than 6 foot fence at 2am!) Inconsiderate people are like a red mist to me so OH is keeping out of my way today whilst I stomp round!

I ride early or late around work anyway and am loving the heat and permenant sunshine ? Although there was a few days when pony was on box rest it got a bit much but back to loving it now?

Admittedly the ground is a bit of an issue but it'll be cold, wet and dark soon enough so I'm going to enjoy sunrise rides, topping up my tan, alfresco dining and drinks while it lasts?

I'm finding it a nightmare. Having ME affects your temperature regulation, so I'm even more exhausted than usual as the heat totally drains me. I have to stay indoors all day once it's above the low 20's, so I barely see anyone during the summer as the little socialising I do is usually during the day. I need to space activities out, such as they are, to avoid overdoing it and now have to walk my dog and do the other stuff all in the evening, as I can't function physically in the morning. I'm longing for September, and bearable temperatures. I know that I'm lucky not to have to go out during the day, I feel so sorry for people who are out working in it, or driving for a living without air con. I really don't know how they do it.

Another one with ME. Fortunately, horse is done early by highly competent yard staff. Horse loves the heat (Arabian) and only goes in the shade for a siesta with his Arabian mates.
Fat Kat Kevin lounges around, in the wheelhouse, both doors and portlight open, enjoying the breeze on his tummy, has fresh water bowls in every cabin and gangway in the boat.
I'm feeling evil-tempered, headache-swamped and tired because I find it difficult to sleep for more than half an hour at a time. The devil mosquito hordes have been out, so I have lots of itchy bites.
Idiots are roaring up and down the river, which is at the top of the 6m tide. My milk of human kindness is, currently, very sour.

Even washing up is tricky, the sun is full blast on the huge kitchen window where the sink is.

If you have a large parasol try angling it in front of your window to stop the sun, it works for us and makes a big difference.

My OH has bought a garden sail because the massive parasol doesn’t provide much shade, it’s crazy! It’s sadly nowhere near the kitchen and very heavy.

I'm enjoying the weather. We're sitting under the apple tree which provides shade, cool grass for the dogs and cats and a gentle breeze. I grew up in the tropics where it can be endlessly hot and humid, so the one thing I love about England is having four seasons. The sun and snow never hangs around too long for it to be little more than a talking point or a novelty.

I looked at getting a sun canopy that bolts to the wall over the window and extends out, but meanwhile tried using our cantilever parasol as a get by and that helps massively. A fixed canopy over your window may be worth looking at.

I have a flowering cherry in the garden which is getting a bit big (and roots ruining the lawn) but I can't bring myself to do anything about it because in this weather it's worth its weight in gold - an oasis of cool to park myself (and cat) under.

It's not nearly as hot and dry here in Ireland, but I must say I'm loving it. I lived for many years in hot places and so am used to managing horses (and life) in the heat; it must be difficult for people who aren't accustomed to it. I also just spent a month working (mostly outside) in Morocco in 38 - 45 degrees - this is nothing!!!

I absolutely hate the heat mainly because it impacts on my sleep.

My dearly departed pony used to hate the heat as well. My only consultation about his loss is that I don't have to worry about how he is coping during the hot weather and I don't have to go to the yard in the heat. Last night I stayed at my friend's who has aircon. Back home now to sweltering flat but new meaco pedestal fan is proving to be good and I will have a cold shower before bed.

Thankfully office with aircon is open so have not had to work from home in a flat that is over 31C in the day with sweat dripping off me which was what I was doing during lockdown.

Tomorrow I am going to meet a friend to go to Beatrix potter exhibition and then out for a meal so don't need to be in hot flat all day.

Next week looks cooler.

We were meant to be going out for a yard meal but YO said there had been two fires in a field near the yard so didn't want to risk going out so we have cancelled.

I was going to book myself into an aircon hotel for a the weekend but looks like a lot of people had the same thought as everywhere local was booked up.

There’s a massive party outside in a house to the back of mine, with mucho shouting from the men and shrill screeching laughter from the women. Another party to the front of me too so looks like it’s going to be a long night.
next door to the mucho screeching party is a man with severe agoraphobia. It must be hell for him tonight.

Rock on some rain, but I’m visiting family up north on Monday and they want to go to Marsden Rock so the dogs can play. Chance of rain=60%. ? Want a day out on Tuesday, chance of rain=89%. Fml.
