Is it just me?

Or has the horse market gone mad?

I am trying to find a nice little horse to school on and sell, but am having no luck what so ever. Everything seems over priced to me. Found a couple that would be worth looking at, but both were over 2K, and I refuse to spend more on a cheap project horse than I did on Jerry

I have been searching the free ads and websites for weeks now and cant find anything half decent for a good price. I really don't think I should have to spend more than 1500 on a little TB with niceish conformation. Instead I have seen several ex racers advertised at £2500 with awful conformation and issues

Am I being unrealistic?

I agree on this one, friend is trying to find something simular but everything seems to be minimum £2500! she saw one but it failed vetting!

No I dont think you are, I do agree though the market has gone mad, could you not go to a racing yard and see if any are going?
You know I wouldnt mind but some of the horse prices on project horses are shocking.

It is almost summer and the grass is on it's way. I guess the thinking is keep is cheap so horses should sell even if overpriced.........?

And they don't move at all come winter even if they are almost free.

The horse market has gone crazy. S hasn't done that much in the ring but is a fab jumper, 100% on the ground with anyone & just needs a confident rider as she can be fizzy. There's equivalent but with temperamental/manner issues going for £1500+. Utterly crazy....

If i had the grazing to keep another youngster then I would be very interested, just dont have the space unfortuently. Needs to be something that can be in work and stabled at night.

If you want to hang onto him for a year for me...

I was thinking the same thing earlier. A friend who is on my old yard (but just exchanged on her very own today

) asked if I knew anyone who wanted a horse on loan. The loaner has a 14.3hh black cob, not been ridden for two years, that they want somene to ride and bring on so they can sell!

What's more, they're thinking of asking 2k for it!

There isn't a smiley that looks shocked enough to match the look on my face when she told me.

I think if you look hard enough you can certainly get something for under £2000, I am sure i have seen a few. I guess it depends if you are looking for a particular type though in which case you are narrowing your options some what. I just had a quick look and found these which i think are all pretty reasonable. In fact I think the tobiano could be fab with some work and bulking up. Bet he's going to make a lovely little horse.
