It seems pretty much like every livery on our yard is about ready to start writing a for sale advert. Even the most placid older schoolmasters are at it. Of course last night mine decided to join the "gang".

My horse has gone from a 12yr old solid bombproof hunk of gold dust (can ride during a firework display or carry on without batting an eyelid while a quad comes through the school for example) to a horrid wild idiot. Last night he nearly ran me over taking him to the school, when I finally got him walking, rather than power trotting, he was swinging around and kicked me in the back of the leg. Then he was spooking at the wind, noises on the yard, throwing his head in the air and trying to take off instead of working. He went like a bag of you know what; as if he'd never been schooled a day in his life. While mucking out he was claiming that the shadow people on the wall are actually trying to kill us and my husband apparently needs scowling at every time he speaks!

Is anyone else finding it is all starting to kick off this week? is spring fever on with an early onset?

I hope so otherwise the only other option is that our gorgeous mares are posessed!!

OH mare can be a tricky soul, but she is the love of his life and usually a reasnobly sensible lady - not recently, she is an utter witch and very nearly had herself a trip to the sales!! She either won't work ('make me'!!) or is an idiot whizzy thing trying to take off at every available opportunity! She is alternatly mad as a hatter and nippy on the ground or a soft old huggy thing! They have just had their spring mot so I am sure that all is well with tack/teeth/back etc, both of them and her in particular are just feeling really really well! The first 10 mins or so of turnout are now spent with tail in the air arab stylee bouncing around at the wind!!

Hope they settle soon, not sure how much more glue my backside can use!

I've not ridden mine for 3 days..YO'er daughter done 2 days for me (in exchange for lorry rides with horses to beach at weekend..good deal for me 2 days off riding!!!:D) so tonight is first time this week. Apparently he's been 'spirited' when she rode him so god help me as she's 16 years old and sticky as they come..I'm not 16 and not sticky so guess it might be interesting if he decides spring fever is in order!!!

Not just you!!! Mate and I hacked out this morning, my boy napped, span, jumped about like a tit, hers also set off just so he wasnt left out, and then spooked at everything and more spinning down the road. Needless to say, he didnt get his usual canter today lol. Gave Daughter a lesson on Tues, he tried to boot both of us when we were legging up, little demon!
:D :D

Yep not just in UK either - mine are destroying fences, hooning about like lunatics, and my sister's horse would not stand still to be groomed yesterday, fidgeting about etc, then kicked me right on my knee - ouch! We have very similar weather to UK at the moment though - cold and windy so I think the wind is winding them up.

Yep, it's that time of year. Appy is pulling horrid faces at all times and spooking and spinning at things he has seen a zillion times but are now apparently menacing. I have responded by halving his feed and wearing full suede chaps which have the happy effect of sticking me to the saddle - well, every little helps.

Little TB stuck me on the floor twice last week and when I lunged yesterday she provided me with a rather spectaular display of bucking/bronching/farting/galloping as fast as she possibley can without falling over/boncing all 4 feet off the ground.

...love her

I won't take it too personally then! Helps to hear how you guys are finding it and that it probably is just the loopy season. At least mine has yet to suggest I eat dirt.

Just really annoying when the 4yr old ISH work in progress, who is a little green and spooky is sauntering around like a lead rein pony and my OH is actually moaning that I need to sort him out. Apparently he has "gone badly behaved too" as he has been really poky. We are talking 1cm in front of the vertical for about 10% of the time here; just feel like telling him to get a grip! Gritting my teeth and smiling for now, whilst secretly wishing he gets a taste of proper spring fever...guess that is a bit evil of me???

This has cheered me up, its not just mine!!!

Rode my TB out yesterday, LETS CANTER MUMMY...............EVERYWHERE :D

Nearly had a nose\neck coming together during one of his "starting stall" memory moments!!!! :D

Yup, mine's gone a bit loony - quite pleased about it at the moment though, as we spent all last Summer desperately trying to get some oomph. Oomph is well and truly there now!!

We took some of the horses for a walk to the local ford today. Bella is normally a proper tit in the wind  but today she decided she is growing up and should be a lady  and was as good as gold. Spenser decided now would be a good time to depart from his sensible ways and be a loon  prompting daughter to threaten him with the glue factory ;)

Yep that wind has a lot to answer for :p :D
