If you do it on private land... you can do what you like! It would not be legal on the public road.

Your breaks are probably simply sticking a little. If teh trailer has been standing or used infrequently a little rust forms on the discs, and this can be enough to make it judder. Also if you have had new shoes or discs they will need to bed in to stop the judder. If you take it for a tow without horses, and do some hard breaking, it will free it up. When we tow horses, we are quite rightly easy on the breaks. However, being gentle on breaks isn't that good for them in so far as keeping them freed up goes.

I have to take my wagon for a thrashy drive out, without horses once in a while, simply to keep the breaks functioning. I hardly use the breaks when I have horses on board, I rely on engine breaking and go steady. A few emergencey stops and everything works nicely.

dunno, but if you shut the doors who will know,

ive done it before and its bloody awful,

I've travelled in back of a trailer with horse years ago before seatbelts had to be worn. God it was a horrible sensation had no windows either. If you put a headcollar on and tie yourself up andstand in one of the stalls, no one will know and at least you'll get the full feel of the movement but you must be on all four of course. I wounder if that will make it legal. Haha.

I did this with my foals so they wouldn't fall under the bars.

With phone to tell people in the car towing to slow down etc.
My dad used to put us in the back of his box (no living) as it only had 2 seats half the time we where joined by horses or ponies with no partitions!!! Nice to know he cared about us!

An unladen trailer will always bounce and judder more, especially at the speeds you are talking about. If you want to check it with a touch of reality, you'll need to put something heavy in there and drive it about. Bags of gravel or similar are good, anything loose (soil or sand) is just a pain to clean out later.

Ive travelled in one several times trying to teach a 3yo horse to keep his hooves on the ground... It wasnt much fun. I believe it is illegal, but at the time it was the only way I could teach him to stay IN the trailer! If you do do it, you'll soon see why some horses do object to it at first - its noisy and shuddery!
