Is it normal for a helmet to squeak?

I put my helmet on today (a Charles Owen Pro II) and as I was tucking my hair into it, it squeaked. Sure enough, when I pressed on the left side it squeaked (not the right side though). I've fallen off twice on grass and whacked the side of my head with it (but the right side) and it got tossed over a hedge into some allotments by the yobs who broke into my tack room earlier this year.

Think it's gone up the spout? :(
 
In my world it wouldn't still be around for me to be worrying about whether it squeaked or not. How old is the poor battered thing?
 
Not sure, it's not that old though. I bought it from my friend January 2009 as she bought it new and she never wore it as it was too small for her. She had it for a little while before I bought it so she probably got it in 2007 or 2008.

My husband is moaning now as one of my energizers went up the spout this evening and now my helmet :( Two pricey things to replace!!
 
If it 'squeeks' when you put pressure on it I would think that something in the helmet is damaged/broken/snapped etc & this either happened when you fell off or when it was thrown. It will need replacing...... helmets can be replaced...heads can't. There's never a good time to have the expense of a net hat but it's extremely important that you have uncompromised head protection.
 
My sister got a lovely nes hat for her birthday in February, she fell off just after she got it and got yet another new one less than a week later! Throw the thing away, it has hit the deck with your head in it twice and once on its own!!!! Good grief girl, how many blows do you think it should take? :)
Of course if you want your head to squeak, keep the hat :p :)

Nope, no mice in it, there wouldn't be any place for one with the amount of hair I have to tuck up in there. :P

It never squeaked before so I guess today was the day it went to "helmet heaven", it couldn't take it anymore.
 
Mine squeaks too and makes a cracking noise :o iv fallen on my head alot and seriously need a new one so i steal my sisters :p she hates me for it but sure lol ... id say get a new one ... better safe than sorry :D
 
The polystyrene inner lining causes the squeak,probably because it has been crushed and is now loose inside the hard outer shell. Bin it.

Yes, when I press it, the outer shell does seem to move from the polystyrene inner lining. I suppose it's a good testament to the company that it saved my head twice and kept going for as long as it did!
