My mare has started doing really smelly farts quite regularly. Her poo is slightly runny, but is definatly not dioreah, and her tummy is rumbling a bit. However it normally does rumble a little bit. She isn't displaying any colic symptoms and is happy to eat, drink and be lunged.

Do you think there could be a problem? Or maybe it's because we wormed her yesterday? Or because she moved back to the yard at Uni with me on Sunday (she has been here before for 10 weeks, she came home with me for 3 weeks for the easter hols).

Thoughts?

Thank you :)

Is she turned out? I would suggest its just the effect of the spring grass, always used to give my boy really smeely farts and sloppy poo for the first few days , but it always settled down.

She was turned out at home, but has been in her stable since coming back to current yard as she was wormed (we have to worm then leave them in for 48hrs). So I don't think it's because spring grass.

I would imagine it is either the move or the wormer. She may still have grass in her system
Dont know if it i true but i had always been told from people that so long as you horses stomach i making noise it mean that feed and hay etc is being digested. So if they are colicing it wont make any noise or very limited noise.

It is normal for horses to do smelly farts. Normally when you are putting a tail bandage on/walking behind them/putting studs in.

Just be aware that it could be closely followed by a nice warm pat on the head ;)

My lad always smells as if he has had a night on the Pedigree followed by a vindaloo. In fact, I think horse and husband have farting competions :)
