Hi, as title says really. My horse had a joint flush after he was injured in the field on 28th September. The vet has given go ahead for riding etc and he has healed 100%, but was just wondering if the swelling would ever go down completely, he is 100% sound now, the swelling has gone done loads but it is still bigger than the other knee, no photo at the moment, I will try and get one tomorrow. Thank you :)

It is only 6 weeks post op, I would expect the main swelling to have gone with any residual swelling to take several months to totally go if you are unlucky there may always be a little thickening but the chances are over the next few months it will disappear.
My horse is over 10 months post op he was left with a lot of thickening around a fetlock joint but over the last few weeks it seems to have almost gone just as I had thought it would never go down further it is now almost normal.

my horse had same op they gave me a very tight zip up bandage.Made full recovery took a while
do be patient swelling went . Little bald patch and couple white
hairs at back of knee due to pressure of bandage. One important thing to consider
much later in life as told he did loose flextion in that knee and get athritus they said he would
I put him on cosequin immediatley and adequan as a veteran and stable bandage
or boots when very cold and kept active. He had the best of care
and vetinary treatment so be aware of this later on in life. But yes the swelling did go with mine

ohh thank you, i will keep watch, mine is only 5, how old was yours when they had the op and how old when they lost flexion may i ask? thank you

APPROX13 when he had opp Started to be a real problem 25 yrs but as i say i really looked after it xrays cosequin adequan injections then xrays again to see what i was doing was working.
Arthritus showed much earlier than 25 but the treatment he had
kept it at bay and he remaind in full work hoys rihs olympia etc this is why i am
saying be aware you dont want him to be left untreated and seized up
at a early age.Get a arthritus plan in mind now. It does not need to be expensive
stable banadages or boots cold nights avoid hard ground
good quality supplement .Perhaps as ages few adequan injections per year
If you can afford it go for it.

Sorry to go on the advice the vets gave me was that they will get arthritus not if
So it is injury not age related. That is quiet common
From my own experiance and others they make a good recovery
from this provided there have been no complications infections
etc.So dont worry my lad was superb the rest and tlc worked wounders for hor him
