Is it normal to feel a little overwhelmed?

So, my first horse arrived on Friday. An absolutely gorgeous grey ISH Gelding called Forest (I asked about his grandparents the other day). And as much as I am overjoyed at his arrival I'm also a little bit scared.

I've been riding 21 years and worked on a stud yard for 8 but this is my first horse. He's very sweet and genuine.

But I just feel a little terrified and keep thinking "oh my, what have I done?" and I'm worried I'll do something wrong or hurt him in some way! I'm hoping this is a pretty normal feeling for first time horse owners!

Yes!! When I got my first horse, I had about 2 weeks of feeling like I was living in a fairy tale and then after that about 4 weeks of panic when I realised that I was completely responsible for my wonderful boy and I wasn't convinced I knew what I was doing!! 3 years later and I've finally chilled out (a little)

He seems lovely and yes it is normal. Just go at your own pace and don't do anything you feel you 'have' to if other are saying 'why aren't you x, y, z yet'.

Completely normal. I'm not sure it ever really goes away either. We just get better at coping with it! Horses are good at throwing a curve ball just when we think we have it all sorted. But its worth it. Good luck and have fun!

Yes definitely!! I have had horses for 30 years and still worry about things!! Luckily they have all survived to tell the tail!! My advice would be if your unsure of anything ask for advice. Perhaps get a good instructor on board so you have someone to turn to. Try not to worry too much, I'm sure you're more than capable and just enjoy x
