For hunts to be really wary about giving out info about dates etc...I've emailed and called about four hunts, and when they Do reply, they say before they are giving out information they want a reference from the hunt my sister goes with regularly. I can understand why, but I don't remember it being this hard last time!!

Is this normal?? Is it usually this hard to get hold of any meet date?

Some hunts get lots of trouble from sabs, so would be wary of giving out details to just anyone

I know why they do it, but it's taken two weeks and still nothing. I don't really got what sort of ref. they want....

Oh right, erm...

Could you get a reg. subscriber from the hunt or your sisters hunt, to give them a ring, (if you know any) and protest your innocence, or ring them up again and ask what they want lol

Christmasbee is right - hunts are very wary of antis. I agree with her advice about getting a reference from a subscriber. I guess otherwise you could go and meet the secretary on foot and assure them of your intentions. Good luck. What part of the country are you in?

Are you a member of the CA? If so then explain that to the Sec, be prepared to give your membership number and go from there. Is there anyone on your yard that hunts? If so call the Hunt sec and make her aware that you know so and so from XYZ.

I'm in Surrey. The ref. would be from the Bicester up in Oxfordshire, so I'm not quite sure how I would get hold of it. Sister's OH plays a big part in that hunt, but I'm not sure they'd know his name if I mentioned that we've been hunting with him etc...because they're in diff. counties!!! I might just have to go and meet the sec. If that's how they want it lol!!!

Nope, but sister's OH is, if that counts!!! Nope, noone at the yard hunts. I don't know how big the hunting world is really, i.e. but surrey people know quite 'big' people in Oxfordshire?

LMAO, can just imagine my sister on the phone being told she needs a ref. before they'll give out any info!!! I will just ask my sister to give them a ring, as she probably knows what they mean by reference etc...and she could give her OH's CA num etc... thankyowww x

Its odd you posted this today as I was just thinking how quiet its been at local hunt (not complaining!!) re sabs. I think hunts do have to be careful re sabs, but ultimately if they want to find out where a meet is, they will come hell or high water.

Its more important to get supporters out there on their horses and if they make it too difficult I would imagine a lot of people will not subscribe when they could have been an asset to the hunt, but for things made a little harder by over cautiousness.

I can see it from both sides but I think a phone call should be enough.

I've contacted two local hunts recently to ask about coming along as a novice hunter and haven't had any reply. If they bothered to reply I could tell them I'm not a sab but just being ignored seems a bit rude. One of them is a bloodhound pack so surely they don't get sabs anyway?

I don't know anyone that hunts and I wasn't brought up doing it, surely its a bit cliquey to only allow people that have a history of doing it?

unfortunatly not so. you would be surprised at the number of people that have put their two penthworth to myself and my OH even though we are driving the hunt truck, which quite clearly has DRAG hunt written all over it!
