My naughty boy is on medication, it's a very fine powder. Not quite sure how he manages it but can eat every pony nut and not eat any powder. It's really important that he takes the powder to get better.

I have resorted in putting a squirt of apple juice in the powder and mixing it in his food. He has been licking his bucket clean. I have noticed that he has been drinking a lot more than usual. He has never had laminitus, he's a TB type. (French trotter).

Is it ok to carry on doing this until he has finished his powder ? He has about another week left on the medication.

Edit - Tried mixing in with water and he wouldn't touch the food at all.

Absolutely. I have a very naughty old mare who we have to resort to mixing meds to a paste with icing sugar and then increasingly elaborate concoctions of grated carrot, apple etc etc.

I think that's fine - when my horse (fussy eater) was on bitter powder antibiotics that had to go in his feed my vet told me to put apple juice in his feed, which is kind of the same thing. He said that it wouldn't dilute or change the antibiotic. However it didn't work and so I had to use molasses instead!
