Hi, just wondered if its ok to only bring in my two when the weather/conditions are bad? I was taught that routine is really important and once have changed from out 24/7 to in at night you should stick to it untill it changes again. But does it really matter? We have our own land so I don't have anyone setting the rules, just me, quite scary at times !

I think it varies with the horse, some like a strict routine others aren't so worried, as you are bringing them in together I'd say as long as they're ok then do it, I expect they'll let you know if it doesn't suit them.

No, IMHO. You make your own rules, what's best for you and your horses. Yes they do prefer a routine, but I believe they love to be out as much as possible, mine do any way. But sometimes it is fairer on them to turn them in when the weather turns. Follow your heart! ;)

Mine is only stabled when the weather is bad. He had 2 days in all last winter and they were at the beginning of April! He is perfectly happy with this and is never wanting to be in. He is always fed in the field and not his stable so he doesn't associate coming in with food. He was always stabled on a night in winter and adapted perfectly well to being out 24/7 now copes really well being out. He has ad lib hay 24/7.
