Is it picky to want titles of threads to be more specific?

Is it unreasonable to expect people to post a thread with a content specific title?

Hi Everyone!
I spend about an hour a day reading through the forum updates H&H send out each day to see if there is any threads where my opinion/experience/advise could be useful to someone. Its nice to be as helpful as possible but it seems a waste of time to me when titles to threads are really vague! I like it when I can see before I click through, which threads my opinion would be useful in but there seems to be LOADS that don't give so much as a tiny hint as to the content of the thread! ie 'advice please' and 'what do you think'
Am I the only one that REALLY prefers specific titles? Or am I just being picky and I should get on with things?
If the poll ends up more than 80% in favour of specific titles then I will ask admin to post a sticky about it.

I 100% agree with you. Very irritating (especially on a phone with this stupid mobile version) than to find it isn't something you know about/can help with/are interested in and have to go all the way back to the menu!

The ones which really annoy me are the ones wanting livery or recommendations for a farrier/instructor etc. but do not put a location in the thread!!!!!!

Completely agree with you, OP. I especially hate titles such as: "Don't you just love it when..." Grrr! Such a waste of time to click on it and then find it's about something really silly or boring. I like to know what the subject of the thread is before I click on it. Usually, I don't bother clicking on really vague thread titles unless I see that it has loads of responses. However, I have noticed that the vague thread titles get fewer clicks than the specific ones, so maybe that's justice.

It may be true that non-specific thread titles get less clicks, maybe I'm the stupid one for clicking on them in order to find out what they're about! As it stands its the specific threads that I know I can have a useful input into and the vague titles that definitely get a click from me! Maybe I should boycott vague titles!

Yes I agree I prefer to see threads with specific titles as a general rule.

But I do not think Admin should be posting any sticky about it. People are entitled to call their threads whatever they like - the last thing we need is more rules!

I agree, nobody likes too much obstructive official routine or procedure but maybe a 'word of advise' could be posted. A rule about thread titles would just be oppressive and probably stop people posting!

People are indeed allowed to name a thread what they want and I'm not convinced anyone would suggest otherwise, however a word or two about a well defined title could help more people find help or advise and it would also make it easier for people offering advise to find threads relevant to their expertise easier. :)

Sorry this is supposed to be fun.... if you dont like us why have you just joined us - and please leave us to get on with life as we know it. I am all for progress but bleeting that you come on here and find it irritating that us mere mortals are not playing to your likeing - well go and find something else to do for an hour a day - your not the boss on here.

Sorry - this post has really irriated me - some of us have enough pettyness in our lives already and come on here for a bit of fun.

Sorry - this post has really irriated me - some of us have enough pettyness in our lives already and come on here for a bit of fun.

I do apologize if this thread has aggravated you! I'm not too sure that I ever suggested it shouldn't be fun or that 'I don't like you'.

I consider the way it was worded to be mild mannered, not the slightest bit aggressive so I'm slightly bemused by such a strong reaction! But, again, please accept my apologies if you find this thread irritating!

Please, I am not on a high horse! I am merely pointing out something that currently 91% of 31 voters agree with. I am certainly not the boss either and I don't recall claiming or implying that I am.

I do find your post a tiny bit ironic as every thread you have started has a content specific title so its not even as though I've said anything that contradicts the way you do things and neither can I see that using a content specific title is not fun or is any more hassle than otherwise.

In peace....

I don't understand why we can't have the facility to hover our mouse over the thread title and see the first few lines of the post - I don't know any other forums that don't have this function enabled, I remember TFC saying 'No' when someone suggested it a while ago so he must have his reasons :p

xx

Shear Ease - Sorry I was a bit over the top - I just cant cope with anymore rules and regulations on here - this is a fun place to be, I am not disputing that you have a huge amount of advice to give - so do many - but I am not making it my lifes work to correct the ways of folks having fun.

If you really want to help the HHO community - post about yourself and ask to be asked - I am sure you will have an abundace of questions-

I have one for you - my little lad has soft structure damage to his front offside hoof - after box rest 12 weeks he came sound - I have then left him for a full year since becoming sound, just hacking in walk and trot and when the ground has become a little softer i have been having a few canters (well sometimes we go a bit faster :) ). My farrier has picked up that this hoof appears to be shrinking and is of poor quality. I am using a naf product for feet, am using cornucresin on the broken hoof - he ripped about a third off 3 shoeings ago and its been hard work to get a shoe on since. I am using magnetic boots on both front legs, have arranged a couple of swimming sessions for him - what else can i do and would you ever jump a horse like this again?

Yes, vague thread titles are annoying, especially when on the phone. Also, I wish that on the phone you could tell who started the thread.

Isn't it just good manners/etiquette to give a thought to how one's actions might embarrass, upset or (in this case) inconvenience others?

As a newbie, I'd have to say that clear thread titles make it much easier for me. As I'm returning to horses after a long gap, there are various topics I'm trying to pick up knowledge on, so it does help when I know what a thread's about.

That's not intended as a criticism, but often I only have 5 minutes to have a quick trawl.

I have sent you a PM.

I do agree with OP, I find it frustrating to not exactly know what: 'aww bless...' or 'can I just ask' refers to, but I find myself saying that whilst it is frustrating, I would not want to change it because for all the threads that I open up and am disinterested in there are some that are 'gems' that were it not for the intrigue of the title, I probably would not have opened and enjoyed

Agree with this. Often wondered why HHO doesn't have this facility when other forums do. Saves so much time clicking on threads that aren't of interest to me and missing threads that are.
I do prefer title specific threads because the forum is so busy, some threads get missed while shifting through the new posts.
