To get less strong i.e. better mouth after time off?

Badge hasn't really done anything since hunting about a year ago. Today he was totally Mr perfect and actually felt something when I asked him to slow down in a french link, this is not how he used to be!!

What do you think?

Did he used to split his mouth? Our grey horse was always very strong until we changed to the only bit that didn't split his mouth and since then he's become quite polite! I think he used to run into the pain a bit

as he would be great for about 20 minutes then get stronger and stronger... That said, I absolutely dare not hunt him even now - that would fry his brain completely.

I don't mind him pulling my arms out.

But I'm just shocked how perfect he was. He did have a sadative when he was clipped on Thursday... maybe that was still working.

No his mouth has never been sore. Maybe he's heard on the grape vine I wanted to sell him.. and he wants to stay so is being a good boy.

i've only had horses get less strong/keen when the fences got bigger, and they decided to back off a bit and listen!
i guess that if he wasn't balanced/strong in himself before, and he's better in those areas now, he might feel less strong in the hand because he's carrying himself better - is that feasible?
