This is the reply I had from the previous owner to my question could poppy be in foal as she is producing milk and has increased in size..

"no there is no way she could be in foal, we have got our own stallion but hes only two years old and has only ever been with her for 2 weeks at the end of august which she never came into season anyway. "

I know that to get the final answer the vet has to come out, with this new info I shall book an appt.
 
Yes, I would say it is very possible. Being with a stallion (or uncut colt) can bring a mare into season when she is not due, and very possibly the previous owner missed this.
 
so, (big) if she was covered in August, according to tables she could foal mid july - is it early to produce milk? Sorry to ask so many questions.

I am going to look a right wally if she's not in foal!
 
Depend on how long she was running with said colt, mares come into season all year round. Feel along her right flank with your hand, if you can feel a kick or flutter. If she's producing milk and her udder is hard and her vulva is dropping(getting slack) also hip bones, run your hand down her spine as you get to hip bones, if the muscles on each side are soft and dip when you press down gently, she's not far off foaling.:)

with Lyric we could actually see the foalie moving let alone feel it - til the vet told us she was just fat and there was no foal! hehe........

mmmm...........they could be underplaying the time he ran with her, or be mistaken. If I remember correctly Gypsy started to bag up quite early with Breeze, but he was her first so I don't know if that makes a difference. I would have a vet to check her if you can so you know for sure rather than wondering. Good luck for whichever way you want it to go!
