I have come across a field up fr rent that we are interested in, but had a walk around it and doubt the size of it. Is there a way of checking its acreage on google earth or similar?

Super! Field is actually what the farmer said - obviously I have a very poor sense of scale!

Try the Ordnance Survey website, they have helped me with grid co-ordinates for landing helicopters so may have size of field mapped.

Yes, you can use the ruler to measure the length of the boundaries and you will have a reasonably accurate size of the acreage.

I tried this but it didn't work for irregular shaped fields but but very good for squares :D

Yes, on google earth use the ruler thing as a path and measure out the field. There is a measurment that is very close to acres or one that you can convert into acres.

The size of fields is usually displayed on deeds, which are now available electronically for a small fee (used to be 4 pounds, but I haven't checked in a few years).

Not this example, but other people need to know that if the field slopes the acreage can be considerably higher than if it is flat :)
