I passed a group of 4 riders on Tuesday on a very dangerous bit of road, none wearing hiviz and I have never seen such a miserable bunch !!! I slowed right down and smiled and not one of them said thanks !!! Then Wednesday I drove past a rider again no hiviz and again no thank you. The people I past where all riding very well behaved warm bloods so there was no excuse to at least do a thank you nod. There was one teenager today tho, head to toe in bright pink hiviz on a jig jogging hairy cob who gave a massive smile, nod and thank you wave. :)

Seems some people have no manners. It always seems to be the ones on the posh horses that never say thanks, guess they're too important to acknowledge plebs in muddy cars. If their horses had manners like them, I bet they wouldn't be too happy.

Does my head in.

Grrr, despite wearing my illegal POLITE vest and Shy with his leg bands on, I still had to tell two drivers to slow down today !!! And I am usually the one so busy thanking people - I get knackered. But no, they both chose to fly past.

Riders that do not say thank you do not understand how vulnerable they are and the bad manners they are promoting, and are just idiots. We have to work WITH road users if we care about our horses safety - things have changed.

Yeah - a thank you costs nothing. I always try to acknowledge drivers even if having hands full means you can only give a sort of eyecontact type thanks. I really believe it is better to make drivers your friend than your foe!

Even if a horse is being an ass, a rider can still shout out thanks to a driver. There is not any excuse for bad manners.

If I pass a rider and get not thanks then I will stop and tell them of their lack of curtesy or call out "Manners!"

I very nearly stopped to speak to them but the road is so twisty it would have been dangerous. I have youngster my self and will no longer hack on the roads as the cars fly about. I have, in the past stopped, stuck the hazards on and got out to help some one who's horse was being a div I then told them an off road route to there yard and later rang the yard to make sure she got back safe.any way I was just a bit miffed that people can be so rude and its really not doing horse riders any favours with motorists.

I still do not get why people go out in THICK fog (two days ago), wearing black, and no hi viz ? It was a solid wall of fog too - one day a poor unsuspecting driver is going to plough into a horse and rider around my way. :(

So arrogant - they are NOT the only road user, and should be seen ( hope the law changes very soon).

Drives me mad! I always at least nod and smile if I can't take my hands off the reins. I always have it in the back of my mind that if I don't that driver might think stuff it next time and won't bother slowing down and I don't want it to be me that they fly past. I hate the attitude that some riders have that they're somehow above other road users as horses were here first and there's no need for common courtesy. Manners cost nothing and none of us can put a price on our own or our horses safety.
