I have a big problem travelling my daughters pony. When we first bought her, about a year ago, she was fine and travelled in the trailer without any problems. However, recently she has started to go down in the trailer. Obviously we don't know how or why shes doing it as i cant see her when we travel. We have just bought a horsebox, thinking that she would be ok in that as she travelled in a box with her last owners. However, we tried her and she does something really strange: she leant against the partition and sort of slipped down and her legs were going everywhere. It was almost if she was trying to lie down or just lean alot but wasn't able to.
A few people have suggested that we take the partitions out and travel her loose & not tied up. Apparently this is what people do with broodmares and foals too. I can see the sense in this as she will then be able to travel where she is most comfetable & also is not restricted to how far she can lean/lie down as the partition wont be there. But some people have said that this isn't safe and she could also start rolling round and get herself cast. I also have my worries that she will get up when we're going down a steep hill or roundabout.
What do other people think?? Safe or dangerous??
Would greatly appreciate it if anyone has got any suggestions about what we could do!!!
