How could it be too late to clip! Just clipped one of ours tonight :) Will be doing another tomorrow, one in the next week then 5 over christmas!

You can clip whenever you want, although at work the horses that are showing at the beggining of the season will have there last clip in the next week of 2.

Otherwise they get clipped till mid Jan, doesnt tend to grow back as much then.

No, of course it isn't too late. One of mine had her first clip yesterday, anothr will have this third clip tomorrow.

thanks for your help thats brill :) never had anything to do with clipping and last winter my boy wasnt in work so wasnt getting sweaty :) thanks for all your help but i have one more question...

he is a tb gelding that lives out 24/7 in light work and i was thinking of having a low trace clip as he usually sweats alot down his neck and chest and on his stomach rather than under the saddle area. Would a low trace be suitable and does anyone have any other clips that may suit him ?

Thanks again

A low trace sounds suitable. You could also have a chaser which sort of takes off bottom half of neck, chest and tummy. Umm it's probably best to google for a picture.

No I will clip up until Feb as I avent seen any difference in my horses coats over the years and means i miss the dreaded winter shedding lol. Makes the easier to clean for shows as well and keeps them cooler and drier when in work.

nikki xxx :)

you can clip whenever you want however if you clip after feb you will need to clip the whole way through the summer too. jan/feb is definitely the cut off point for how late you should clip

For my first clip of the year I take all of the neck (rather than just half) and half the head.... going down the shoulders, chest and take all of the underside of the belly off, its a great clip for horses with sweaty necks but keeps the back on, it's a high chaser clip but taking all of the neck off.

bronte has had 3 clips (3rd one today) as she gets really hairy my ISH has only had one clip but might do hers again by about mid to late december i dont tend to clip past jan as i dont want to affect thier summer coats as i like to show them in the summer
