Is it too late to clip?

As some of you know, Kal has been having a holiday since mid October due to my illness so we didn't clip him. I hadn't planned on clipping him at all - I just thought I would let his summer coat come in naturally . . . however, I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't just bite the bullet and have him clipped. He's still working only in walk and (very tiny amounts of) trot for now, but in a couple of weeks we'll be up to trotting on hacks up and down hills, etc. to build his fitness and I doubt he'll have lost his coat by then and expect him to get sweaty.

I have plenty of rugs for him. He is stabled at night (lovely deep fluffy straw bed).

It wouldn't hurt him to lose a little weight, so removing his fluffiness might help with that - although I have no intention of letting him shiver the weight off so perhaps that's irrelevant.

I just don't want to interfere with his summer coat . . . what do you all think?

I have often clipped one at this time of year that's had a holiday until January I really don't think I affects their sumner coat.
