It really depends on the individual, I've only hunted 4 different horses & despite being quite exitable types they're only been a bit wired for a couple of days after.
For a horse to reactive like the one you describe it's possibly quite a hyper horse anyway but it is down to the individual horse, some are exited to the point of being dangerous while others take it in their stride.
I'm planning on hunting my tb this year, at first I'm going meets that are in hacking distance so if she behaves badly I can just ride her home.
Have a go, if it does't work out, at least you tired.

Forgot to add that autumn hunting is probably the best place to start as the pace is slower, I don't know anybody at my local hunt so I emailed them to ask if I could join them for a few days autunm hunting this year. I got a nice email back with the secretary's mobile number, telling me to give her a call mid to late august, so hopefully I'll be able to have a few days out with them this year.

as said above it depends on the horse! Mine switches off as soon as we've turned for home, my sisters horse hunts in his head for a few hours after, and a previous horse used to take a day or two to settle down.

best way is to introduce it slowly, starting with hound exercise and autumn hunting and see how you get on!
