I have never owned or ridden much in a dressage saddle.

I am increasingly becoming hooked on dressage and have come into a small amount of money.

Do I really need a dressage saddle or am i just hoping it will improve my riding and my horses way of going when really I should just concentrate on my lessons and practise.

Currently riding in a GP and only just at prelim as bringing on youngster. I mean its adequate. But omg that cash is burning a whole in my bank balance.

Do i really NEED one?!? Is it going to be an investment thats worth making? Will I find things considerably easier with a straight cut saddle? Will my horse go better in it or is my spending out of control?

What do you think? Has anyones life considerably improved as a result of such a purchase?

I can't really help, but I have just succumbed to buying a dressage saddle. Reason being, my lad has come on so brilliantly in his schooling lately, I am prepared to put the cash in to make it even easier for me to ride correctly!

I don't school to do dressage either, just to make him a better more responsive ride in general

Yes it is well worth investing in especially if you plan to move up the levels. I love my dressage saddle and I find it makes you ride in a better position..

I LOVE the position they "put" you in,really makes it so much easier to sit properly.
If you want to move up the levels then yep, well worth the investment.

I have always poo-pooed the notion of seperate saddles for each discipline, and of spending extortionate amounts of money on 'trendy' branded saddles too

however having had the privilege of riding a talented dressage youngster in a Jaguar XKC I am a total convert and really witnessed first hand what a decent saddle can do... I guess it is a case of finding the right one that fits you but if you have the money to do it, I would certainly at least test drive the Jaguar

Thats it, thats fab, thats all the convincing I need. It is as I suspected. They obviously do their job!

I'm phoning my saddler next week and am going to spank some cash on a dressage saddle.

Many thanks - whoop!

Well i am really really lucky and i have two made to measure ideal saddles one an event saddle and one dressage saddle.... i have ridden only in the event saddle for the last 6 months and my dressage saddle is gathering dust in the tack room. Why you all cry - but i found that for me whilst I am mastering Mr SchoolMaster - bronk you off if you get it wrong type one - i have been better off concentrating on my position in just one type of saddle. Hoping to start being able to swop between them over the winter.
