Is it worth selling saddles at horse auctions?

I have some saddles I could do with getting rid of. The sale of these would fund purchase of the jump saddle I need for my horse.

Short of selling them for £10 each on eBay, ive had no luck in advertising any of them. Are horse auctions worthwhile?

I can get to three potentials, York, Beeston and Holmfirth. The saddles are worth approximately £200, £300 and £400. Am I likely to get this sort of price for them at auction ?
 
Big brand saddles priced realisitically may sell, but not at private sale prices. You may have been told they are worth that much but the market is really down at the moment, has been for some time, and until someone pays it, just as with houses, there's no absolute value for a used saddle. Since the advent of the internet buyers want to pay less, buyers want to get paid more, and saddle fitters struggle to make enough profit from buying and selling them to even make a living wage/hourly rate equivalent.
 
Have you tried saddles direct? You can e-mail over pictures and information and they will give you a valuation and see if they can sell them for you?
 
I've tried saddles direct previously, and offered a very low price on the saddles. I don't want shut of them that badly!
 
saddles direct will offer you pittance, as I found out. Auctions will get less than saddles direct! Just hold on to them, I currently have a Ryder saddle for sale but no offers and I dont want to lower the price :(

Don`t know where abouts you are, but there is a horsey car boot at Wragby town hall from time to time, i`ve sold a fair bit there.
 
Yes, I agree, a shop with a second hand section may work. Horse Hound and Rider in Duckinfield near Ashton-u-Lyne has a huge stock of second hand saddles and has always part ex'd mine, may be worth a try and is not too far from Holmfirth..

ps. If you google it they have a website and do buy second hand saddles..

I bought a really lovely english leather saddle in superb condition for £25 at Reading auction recently - I happened to be stood next to it as it was going under the hammer with no interest. Unless you really need to sell, it's not your best option.
