is katie price a good rider?

I think shes quite a good rider. Of course all those lessons and nice horses help. Its not as easy as people think to get on a top dressage horse and "push the buttons". The ones I have ridden over the years were actually quite difficult to ride, and had so much energy in their back ends compared to a normal horse that they were really difficult to sit to.

There are a lot of things I don't like about her, including her awful riding clothes, but I think her riding is ok.

Im not a lover or a hater of her......but......i think she is a pretty good rider. About a million times better that me as im certainly no dressage rider!. I can sit a bloody good buck, leap and general pratting around....i generally get there in the end but i have got the grace and style of a hippo on ice skates!

Spurs in a prelim? Ye Gods!

Nothing wrong with spurs in a prelim if the rider can use them properly.

I've ridden in spurs in a prelim, the horse in question didn't think you wanted to do dressage if you didn't wear them! She was an ex BD horse who had also done showing and working hunter classes, all in spurs. She is now a riding school horse. She knew what the spurs meant and reacted well to them. It made the difference between beating and kicking your way round and coming out red faced and sweaty, and doing a pretty nice test with fairly minimal aids. If you didn't use them she was pretty dead to the leg, she was clipped out and had sensitive skin, so it was very quickly obvious if you over used them.

I've seen them used very badly on horses that were clearly uncomfortable and I hope that the judge commented, but I have no problem with someone using spurs in a prelim if they do so correctly. It is far better for a horse to react sharply off a light aid with a spur than to get a kick. Some horses that are ridden a lot by novices get very dead to the leg and the different feel of a spur makes all the difference.

I was all ok for her until I found this; she can afford her own clothing line, therefore she can afford a hat. I don't want to start the hat debate, however, given her popularity, should she not lead by example?[/QUOTE]

Sorry, not laughting at you, but this tickled me. This is the woman that has had so much surgery and botox she looks plastic, with life buoys stitched to her chest. A woman that got married literally weeks after her first husband left her. A woman that is frequently seen staggering out of nightclubs drunk, or ranting like a fishwife about people that criticise her...etc etc. I don't think she does leading by example!

Which is part of why I didn't want to bring it up; it's been said a silly number of times.

And yeah, guess you're right, she's not leading by example. Plus if you're made of a rubbery plastic any bumps should just pop back out right?
