My O/H (farmer) just commented after seeing me about to purchase a bag of magnesium off Ebay (Progressive earth seller) That at the farm they spray liquid magnesium "Bitter salts" and couldn't I just feed this?
Then that Epsom salts were the exact same thing and cheaper

Thoughts?

epsom salts are magnesium sulphate and generally has a laxative effect after continuous feeding for a little while. magnesium oxide does not generally (although weirdly, I cannot feed magnesium in any form to my exmoor ponies as it gives them the runs).

Iv read that the chemical structure of epsom salts is different which is what causes the problem. This combined with the sulphur can cause liver damage in horses if used over long periods. Mag ox hasnt got the sulphur, different structure, doesnt taste bitter amd wont cause liver damage.

Right. Thanks, some of my partners money saving or horse care suggestions throw me slightly if I don't have the correct replies :)
Will stick with the "horsey" products.
