Hi all, so when i bought my pony i kept the same farrier he already had. I wasn’t keen on how he did his feet, found they grew out with longer on the inside ? (not really sure how to explain that) and started to flatten out at the ends, however never really had any problem with him after a trim.
I kept this same farrier as my pony is petrified of the farrier, would suddenly bolt round me in a circle, purely an anxious mess. This farrier wouldn’t touch him without a twitch after time, and always seemed more can’t be arsed with him.
I decided to change farrier to someone a friend of mine had, two of her horses were not fond of the farrier and they praised how patient and good he was. The first time we had this farrier, he took a decent bit off his feet and rounded them off at the toe, they looked beautiful, but he was quite footy for a while, and definitely a change from how they were before. I assumed it was likely the change to how his feet had been done. However, next time we had the farrier same thing happened, so i mentioned it to him the next time he came out to trim him, he said he’d take a little less off, but pony went foot sore again.
Is it likely that he’s not getting on with how his feet are being trimmed/shaped? Should I look at changing to a different farrier? I’m not sure what is best to do in this situation.
Current farrier has said he has good strong feet, and wouldn’t need shoes on. I’m just not sure what’s best
