Don't really like posting pics here if I can help it so wondered if any showing person out there who knows their thing could have a look at a photo of my horse and tell me what type of hunter he is! I have no idea what class to enter for an upcoming county show!

Traditionally how much bone he has will determine his class. I think sometimes people are surprised by how big these horses are. I rode a middleweight at county level and he was huge - but not enough bone to be HW......

I have a true middleweight and have shown a small hunter before. Agreed with above poster, most people overestimate their horses weight/class. These horses are beasts! A hw hunter should make the earth shake in the gallop, lol!

A photo with no tack etc would be fine or you can pm me if you'd like. :)

Very true, proper hunters are big horses that are able to carry weight appropriate to their weight category all day across big country, and do it regularly.

Here is my middleweight. The first picture. taken in December is non show condition. He is 17.2h with 10" of bone and was not one of the bigger middles in the seasons he was shown at top level, 2006 to 2010.

The second picture is at HOY's. He was a prolific winner for us, but it was the era of Pride and Joy and if we ran into him we took a 2nd home.

To be successful the horse not only needs to be correct, it must also be schooled very well and right enough in it's head to cope with electric atmospheres, not to mention the fun fair, red arrows and kings troop gun firing. All in a days work for a show hunter !
