Is my pony too skinny?

It's really easy to turn her into a cow again - she's an ex broodmare and as soon as she sees a foal she goes NUTS!! She totally flipped out last time

I could only just hold on to her

It was the last straw that prompted her time off

I think she looks lovely for her age/workload. Daughters loan pony is sec A same height and similar dainty sort of build but right now a touch fatter as recently moved to new grazing, but with more muscle as has been schooled min 2 x a week for the past few months. When we found her, last day of summer holidays last September she was fat as a barrel having been out of work all summer despite being on starvation paddock, and it's been lovely seeing her true trim shape emerge.

She would be body condition scored as 3 (which is ideal!) if you put any more weight on her she will go into 4 and 5 (fat then clinically obese!) you do not want that!

building muscle on her will improve her "size" appearance, can do this on the end of a lunge etc as well as after breaking in etc..

Please dont pump her full of food she is beautiful!

I think she looks great, I would be very happy if I could slim our pony down to look like that, although she would probably look too thin in the lead rein classes she goes in

For a judge to suggest a pony should have a gutter down its rump is ridiculous, isn't that a sign that a pony is verging on obese!

No, not at all, she looks good. A friend of mine cares for two welsh A's (well, she cares for lots) and entered them for Royal Cornwall Show. The owner, a 'breeder' came to see them and said that they could not go, because they did not have enough weight. One of them was actually pretty overweight as it was.

The worst thing is it was a large county level show (which is why I won't say which one so the judge can't be identified)

Dear God, that makes it even worse! This judge wants shooting! Sadly not everyone will be as sensible as you, all they will care about is the red rossette, it makes me so angry
