I keep reading about naughty Shetlands and I'm thinking my mini must be ill?

She has never tried to escape through, over or under a fence, even when the fence is only chest high to her.

You can leave the feed room door open and she won't go in there.

She leads away from food and other horses with a rope looped around her neck.

You can turn her out in a field wth clover in it and she goes under a wire set at three feet to eat really, really rough grass growing down in a ditch.

You can leave her with unlimited amounts of haylage and she'll eat about two kilos in 24 hours and leave the rest.

Is she sick 😂🤣😂 ?

Ah ok, my daughter had a cat like that. Quite realistic. You have to pump it’s tail for poo pellets to come out?

On a more serious note... fancy a Shetland swap??

If so then so is mine - she’s an utter sweetheart and loves being mauled about by kids puts up with being bathed plaited dragged about, having tea towels put on her head etc hacks amazingly well - she’s a star

I had a reindeer that did that.

Not available for swap, sorry! I loaned her to a friend at Christmas for her grand daughter because I thought she'd like being played with by a child. I missed her so much, I was pleased when the child wasn't interested and she came back. She's a little orange ray of sunshine.

Nope She's not ill, have a pack of minis and non of them do anything naughty, my electric fence isn't turned on, they are just a joy.

But you can see she's had two foals. This was two years ago, and her ribs were easily felt.

Why do other people have so much trouble with theirs, do you think? Are we just lucky?

She'd get on well with mine! My little chap has never escaped and when I put him on the 'good grass' he comes back in when I call him. He never gets a treat so has no real reason to come to his name but he does! 😇

She comes up when she sees me and when I turn them out at night she hangs back for a scratch. She's the sweetest little thing.
 
I think there are some that take it upon themselves to try and make up for the horrors that others are.

The little shetland mum of my two mules was positively saintly. One time I had moved the electric fence in their field, and several hours later I noticed little Polly stood mournfully at one end of the field while all the others were at the opposite end. Presuming she was injured in some way I rushed over, to find that I’d left a length of tape lying on the ground, and she had politely stayed on her side of it !

My current mini is much the same. When I managed to leave the paddock gate open one night, the next morning I was rounding up two mules and a donkey from the local neighbourhood while little Crystal was still in the paddock wondering where everyone else had gone.

My TB does all the above plus unties himself and other horses; liimbos under stable chains; steals the ducks' food and is expert at opening supplement tubs. I've always wondered if he was the result of some bizarre brain swap experiment with a native.....

A TB size Shetland, horrors 😆

You've reminded me that last week I took my TB to a friend's place to test her horse in company for her, and she has door chains. He backed up, charged the chain and bust it right out of the door frame. It was 100% cold blooded determination, he knew exactly what he was doing!

First we tried a stable chain, kept getting out. We hid round the corner and he was putting his head underneath to lift it up, bending his knees and going under. Next was one of those webbing guards, it would seem if you lean on it enough and you are 16 3 and fat, the clips break. Currently he has a a wooden bar which he can't get under or break. He can however lift it and move it across to open so I tie it to the metal keeper. At this time of the year he doesn't want to leave his stable during the day as he hates flies but opens it just to show he can.
 
My two aren't' typical' either. Mine are in an electric fenced off area of a five acre field of hay...one strand of electric, shoulder height. They are no more likely to bust out than my Welshie, or my cobs. I treat them all the same and they behave the same
 
What a cherub. I'm very envious. I've never grown out of wanting a mini that would have kitchen and possibly, sitting room priveleges. So it's probably best that I never have one.
